Agreed, Shake Shack puts Inn-and-Out to shame.

OK, I will bite: a double ‘shackburger’ is $14 or so. In N Out prices out below McDonald’s at $5. Not a useful comparison. INO is great for what you pay.

The fries are objectively terrible though.

If you're ATL-based, I compare Shake Shack to Grindhouse (Available in ATL in T or D-30 + a few locations around town) or Farmburger... and IMHO, the NYC based burger loses every time.

Had my first Shake Shack burger lunch yesterday (LAX-DTW). One and done for me. Rewarming dried it out and cheese got stuck to paper underneath. As much as I could pull off the paper, I was happy to have lettuce, pickles, tomato, etc. for it, but it was just not that tasty. Then, the high carb count—the bun, the chips and the fudge brownie.

Well, at least I tried it but never again.

Have to agree. Strange uneven heating on mine two days ago out of LAX. Everything in contact with the plate was molten hot, but the top bun was cold.
Toppings on the side were fresh but the packaged chips and brownie made me realize why DL likes this meal because it is pretty easy to plate, but that burger was not heated evenly yet overly done still.

I’m giving the burger a second try tomorrow ATL-MSP. Had it shortly after it debuted a few months ago and it was meh. Best thing I recall about it then were the fresh veggies as toppings.

To be honest, I’d go buy a Grindhouse burger, shake, and fries from D or T before getting a shake shack on the plane ex-ATL. 🤤

I gotta give it a try. Despite being from here I can't say I've ever even noticed this place. Or heard of. I guess I'm usually guilty of head down fast walking straight to sky club to eat.

well yeah, eating on the ground is almost always going to be better than eating on the plane.

Waaay off-topic, but Grindhouse started as a stall in the Sweet Auburn Market, adjacent to Grady. It was a favorite for hospital employees and was how I first became addicted. Additional locations were built in Morningside, Decatur, and Athens in addition to the airport. My fave is the Apache or the Diablo, but their regular burgers are also great. My fam prefers it to Farm Burger. Personal preferences only, but I’d take a Grindhouse over the Buckhead Shake Shack any day of the week.

Well, just providing a follow-up. Had the Shake Shack again today ATL-MSP. Still not impressed. The top bun was cold and the meat/cheese/bottom bun was like molten lava. Veggies were good and the sauce was tasty. The burger itself just doesn’t have much flavor. While it’s a neat novelty menu item, it’s just not really first class worthy in my opinion. Especially the chips and brownie. It just screams cost cutting. It has potential, but is not executed well in my opinion.

While unrelated from Shake Shack, the service was horrible on this flight. Had an absolute first today: despite full PDB offered, there was ZERO beverage service with the meal. And I mean ZERO. Trays passed out, no drinks offered. Trays collected, still no drinks offered. About half the cabin walked up to request a drink and were met with groans and eye rolls from the flight leader who was more interested in playing on his phone. Zero turbulence. Seat belt sign off. No excuses other than laziness. Complaint submitted online before landing.

Consistently overheated bottom bun and burger

4 times tried this shake shack cheeseburger this year thinking I wasn’t getting the right deal. And every time it has been disappointing. I thought all the hoopla around it meant I wasn’t getting a good example but pretty sure tomorrow’s last chance selection will disappoint again.

Last weeks try. Bun top was still in package.

Regardless of price, In-N-Out makes a better burger. I don't like the fries but get them animal style when I'm in the mood. In-N-Out's tomatoes, onions, cascabella peppers and pickles are superior to Shake Shack's toppings. I find Shake Shack burgers too greasy and sometimes gristly. Oh, and In-N-Out's shakes are better too.

As previously mentioned, Shake Shack puts In-n-Out to shame. Variety makes the world go round, I suppose. It's just that in my five or so INOs, I have never figured out what all the hubbub is about.
