I got the Shake Shack cheeseburger on a flight from SEA to SNA the other day. Curious thing was that it had been listed asas the standard Delta cheeseburger, but switched to the Shake Shack version when I checked in, so they must just be solidifying their catering/marketing operations in these new markets.

I've been a little burnt out from the dozens of short ribs Ive had on this route, so was curious try it. I've never had the previous Delta cheeseburger, so have no point of comparison. But for the most part, it was fine. Perfectly serviceable burger. Admittedly was a bit over-cooked as a result of the in-flight reheating process. Any semblance of juiciness was a result of the Shake Shack branded sauce -- which I wish I had gone lighter on.

The best part of the meal was actually the caesar salad -- which had real shaved parmesan and is much better than the celery-heavy salads that Delta is otherwise serving these days.

All in all, I'd have it again -- I just wish they provided a wet wipe because your hands get greasy from eating the burger and going to the restroom on the plane to clean up afterwards isn't fun.

I got a “normal” Shake Shack burger in MSY and it didn’t live up to the early reviews of the Delta version.
part of it might be their aloof employees, or that the shake was too thick to drink.
either way, I’d prefer it onboard.

If it was in an airport, it wasn't Shake Shack employees.

Why does the paycheck sender matter? HMSHost should be like any other licensee and be providing the burger per national standard.

Delta catering appears WAY better than HMShost.
(I've worked with Dufry for years and their quality has declined - note that they own the national [global?] license rights to Starbucks....)

OK - had the Shake Shack burger again this week. Have fine-tuned how to eat this with minimal mess and maximum (at least for me) tastiness.

When the meal first arrives, it is *way* too hot to eat. The onboard heaters heat up the food to a temp that will burn the roof of your mouth. So what I do is:

- Take the top bun off, spread some Shack Sauce on it. For me, the sweet spot was about half the contents of the package. But the last time I put the whole package on and it was both too goopy from a taste perspective, and ended up dripping all over\. So half the package for me. YMMV.
- Then, I put the bun back on and flip the whole thing over, allowing the way-too-hot serving bowl to transfer more heat and warm up the top bun while I bide my time.
- Eat the chips. I dip these in the remaining shack sauce as a dip. This was actually super tasty.
- After eating the chips, and allowing the burger to cool to a human-consumable temperature, assemble it and eat it.

It was actually super tasty, and without overloading it with shack sauce was enjoyable without being messy.

Thanks for the detailed playbook! Just selected the Shake Shack burger for a flight out of ATL next weekend. Excited to try it. I’m not even sure if I have had a true shake shack burger from one of their stores - perhaps a decade or so ago in NYC but it’s not memorable if I did.

Now, an idea for DL that will probably never happen, but how about a “battle of the burgers?” Perhaps In-N-Out from West Coast hubs and Shake Shack from East Coast? :p

Now I’m just making myself hungry.

I had the Shake Shack Burger the other day on my flight from ATL to SAN. I liked it very much. Also had In-and-Out for the first time ever and thought it was garbage.

A must do experience, but wouldn't eat there again.

It would appear more markets will be getting the Shake Shack burger for preorder. Psyched to see it coming to MSP.

Agreed, Shake Shack puts Inn-and-Out to shame.

When comparing a "fast casual" concept to "fast food" (Shake Shack being, along with Chipotle/Cava/Panera/Moe's/Five Guys a paradigmatic example of the former category), one would expect that result, though.

(Mooyah is my preferred fast casual burger).

Welcome to FT, Lena1244 . Take a look above. There are a few posts of people who give it positive reviews.

I’m guessing it’s a self-selected population; I’m pretty certain it’s not for me.

Funnily enough -- on the flight I was on, there ware at least 5 people (out of the 12 F seats in all) who specifically ordered the Shake Shack burger. The host was walking around pre-takeoff and it was surprising how many times I heard: "Mr. xxxx I see you pre-ordered the burger...."
