The "24 hour" period likely hadn't expired when you cancelled. Delta is very generous in their definition of 24 hours and it took nearly 3 full days before the option went away for me.

Well, this is frustrating. deepakvalecha mentioned above that a "Little Birdie" said that there might be a grace period until the end of Jan. 2024 for our ecredits expiring Dec 31, 2023.Has anyone been able to confirm?

Have you tried to redeem the 12/31/23 ecredit against a new ticket, just to test out?

Yup, a few times, from Jan 2 until yesterday., The system recognized/allowed me to apply the ecredit but during checkout, said the method of payment was invalid and to call DL. As of today, the system only shows that my ecredit ($1200) is expired. Seems that I need to spend some phone time with our friends at Delta.

Were you able to get an extension?? and who did you call? When I called they said I had to make a complaint and were unable to help me on the phone. If someone has the proper number to call where I could talk to an agent to explain my situation in order for an extension that would be helpful. Also if anyone has any tips in order to make this happen or heard of a scenario where someone got an extension after expiration due to extenuating circumstances that would be helpful. I missed the expiration by 8 days.

Seems all hope remaining here is that there is a possibility, that perhaps, there is a grace period, as mentioned above. And those that did not nail/lockdown the work around prior to Dec. 31st, are pretty much on their own and at the discretion of DL. I have not had any luck. Good luck to you and the others.

Just called in and the agent said he was not aware of the grace period - when it was a prior agent who I spoke to early in Jan who told me there was a grace period till 31 Jan! There go my 300$ :(

I guess the question is: How many grace periods do people expect? Eventually, they have to end or why have them??

Wasn’t trying to, but it worked for me again. I had 4 different credits that I used to book a prospective flight for January next year just in case, all expiring in October/November of this year

I just cancelled it as turns out we decided on other plans. It was on day 5 (so after all 24 hour windows) and it got returned into one credit with a February 2025 date. It had told me on the cancellation page (on app) that that’s what was going to happen - which was nice to know up front.

On day 1 and 2 I had checked and it had said back to original form of payment due to 24 hour rule, so in my case, definitely important to wait until it doesn’t state that.

Slowly but surely, it appears they are closing most of the loopholes...

This is a concerning data point:

Successful DP and question...

My wife had 2 eCredits totalling $55, one expiring today and 1 expiring in June. A few days ago I booked her on LAX-LAS April 2 2025 for $75 using the eCredits plus $20 on Amex. Today I can see that if I cancel that ticket she will get:

Delta eCredit Exp. Date: 05/13/2025 $75.10
Is there any reason I should or should not cancel the ticket now, or does it not matter? (Alternative being to wait until she needs a ticket on Delta and just apply the ticket value to the new ticket - not 100% she'll need a ticket in the next year but pretty likely)

Full success for 3 members of my family to purchase for 300 some days out, wait 3 days to cancel, and get extended dates back

Did the ecredit trick only extend only for 1 month post the travel date?

I had an ecredit expiring 5/30/2024 and I booked a Main cabin flight that was higher than my originally ecredit for Aug 2024. After the "24 hours" cancelation period, my ecredit did indeed get extended, but only until Sep 2024. I thought it was 1 year from booking date?
