TATL Premium Select Experience
I need to book a TATL flight for mid-January and am being quoted a price in PS which is only about $100 more than economy. Has anyone flown it lately? Is there an appreciable difference in the quality of food served over Main Cabin?

It's airline food. Quality is not really a goal. I'd pay it for the seat comfort differential

For sure! I'm just curious whether they're offering the same service that they offered pre-COVID. I've heard it used to be a similar service to domestic First but that, for a while, it became the same as Main Cabin. I'm curious if anyone who has travelled recently knows whether the service is back to true Premium Select or not?

The food had been similar to D1 (minus one main course choice, and without the preordering feature) but AFAIK now it's just a coach meal. There's a long thread on COVID-19 inflight service (including F&B) with pictures here, in the DL FT forum. |
I flew PS ATL-CDG about a month ago on 350 and was not impressed. I guess I just expected more, but it didn't really feel like I got much more than a Comfort+ seat (which would be free to me and would not have cost several of hundreds of dollars more). I did not find the seat on part with domestic first class, it felt quite a bit narrower than that. The food appeared to just be the same food as coach. I just failed to see the class differential to make this a worthwhile product.
For $100 difference would I go for it? Maybe but I'm really not sure to be honest? For any further differential, nope, no chance, I'll just fly in Comfort+. |

I'd bite if the fare differential over Main Cabin is only $100 RT, but I agree that past that the benefits are minimal. Additionally, on a lightly loaded flight you can raise the armrests in Economy and lie across 3 seats, which you can't do in PS. |
I've flown several TATL legs in PS recently (LHR/AMS, etc.) - the food quality is poor to inedible (you'll love the wooden knife and fork!). The difference in seat comfort between C+ and PS is worth $100 but not much more than that. There is little underseat storage space and the leg room for tall (>6' 2") is not great but you can stretch into the space under the seat in front of you. For a 9-hour lfight, it's worth the $100.

It's odd that DL seems to have chosen to downgrade its PS F&B, making PS barely distinguishable from C+. Not that long ago, DL decided to introduce PS as a genuine PE cabin. When flights have both PS and C+, very few seats are regular coach.

I was going to try it out, given I normally fly AF and their PE is shockingly bad, but now I’m thinking I might have better luck sticking with AF and trying to upgrade to J with miles. |

That was most bizarre when I first encountered those flying CDG-ATL. |
If PS is only $100 more than coach fare, I would take it for the additional 50% (I think) MQM bonus.

Flying it on Wednesday LHR-JFK so I’ll keep you posted. Not all $100 are the same for different people and what they value in a flight.
For an 8-hour flight that takes off at 10am, I love the idea of having a smaller 4-row cabin of 2x2x2 vs a 23-row cabin of 2x3x2 so I can peacefully work. The food and amenities don’t really matter to me since Delta One’s is nothing to right home about (their 767-400 cabin is very tight). I would pay the $100 without thinking twice and it also helps the Accelerator as you’re starting your 2022 status run if that truly matters to you. Just think of what you’re looking for. |
This thread is well timed - thanks all. I had booked PS for December and was unaware of the service changes. Going to reconsider now. Appreciate it!
