If PS is only $100 more than coach fare, I would take it for the additional 50% (I think) MQM bonus.

And potentially 1.75x instead of 1.5x for the accelerator.

Flying it on Wednesday LHR-JFK so I’ll keep you posted. Not all $100 are the same for different people and what they value in a flight.
For an 8-hour flight that takes off at 10am, I love the idea of having a smaller 4-row cabin of 2x2x2 vs a 23-row cabin of 2x3x2 so I can peacefully work. The food and amenities don’t really matter to me since Delta One’s is nothing to right home about (their 767-400 cabin is very tight). I would pay the $100 without thinking twice and it also helps the Accelerator as you’re starting your 2022 status run if that truly matters to you. Just think of what you’re looking for. |
Consider Virgin Atlantic PE......product better!!!!!

Thanks so much! I’ll look forward to hearing how you found the flight. Unfortunately, I’m a Flying Blue member, so the Accelerator doesn’t do anything for me. That said, because this is a Delta booking, I seem to be earning way more miles than I normally would on this route with AF. May stick with it just for that and the hard product, as you suggest. Either way, let us know how you get on with your flight!
First of all, I thought that for a day flight, the seats are great. Very much felt like domestic first, minus an inch or two of width, though it wasn't really felt. Not sure how I would feel if it was an overnight regarding sleeping but it would definitely be a superior experience to Main or Comfort+ (unless you have the whole row to yourself) but inferior to Delta One, even in a tight 764. Regarding amenities, I can confirm that we get a PS special Tumi amenity kit (pictured) but the pillow/blanket and food are from the Main Cabin (also pictured - we had Thai Chicken Curry). Overall, I think it's a product that I would gladly pay an extra $100 for because the seats are much more comfortable than main, and if you compare it with the AF PE product, than also more comfortable than them. Don't expect any other crazy frills other than the amenity kit though, not sure when they will come back. Let me know if you have any additional questions. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4b5672011e.png Delta Premium Select seat and amenity kit (10/6/21) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1ccab05ae0.png Delta Premium Select/main cabin meal: Thai Chicken Curry |

It’s a shame they cut the more premium food offering, but not a dealbreaker I guess. I think I’ll do it. Thank you! |

It's odd that DL seems to have chosen to downgrade its PS F&B, making PS barely distinguishable from C+. Not that long ago, DL decided to introduce PS as a genuine PE cabin. When flights have both PS and C+, very few seats are regular coach.

No salad or other first course and no bread and butter either? Didn't they at least give some packet of crackers with the cheese?

I just returned from AMS-DTW this past week on an A350-900 in PS bulkhead (paid upgrade $300/pp). 2-4-2 configuration, there were only 2-3 seats open that I could see. We also had the Thai chicken curry which was good, the other choice was vegan ravioli, a small salad, and an ice cream desert. No bread or butter with the meal or pre-departure drink. For a snack there were some pizza "hot pockets" with some other items (fruit, a dessert of some sort). There were crackers and cheese but it was an Anytime Snack option in the galley along with some other things. Tumi kit was on seat prior to boarding as well as a nicer pillow and regular Delta thin blanket. Service was good, but after watching all the reviews online I was surprised that the food selection was the same as what my friends had in coach and comfort+. So in reality, you do get a better seat with a decent slide out foot rest, a bigger video screen, better pillow, a Tumi kit along with higher priority boarding privileges' and maybe a little better service but that is really about it. Personally I was expecting a little bit more out of this product.
Would I do it again? Not for the $300/pp upgrade that I paid for but I would do it for $100 or so. The other driving factor was getting the additional MQMs from the Status Accelerator to give the SkyMiles account a little more a of a kick. Due to KLM cancelling a flight on the outbound a week in advance of this, flew ATL-FCO in Main cabin instead of PS through AMS and for the Anytime Snack available in the back, they had a selection of small sub sandwiches which I though was a nice touch as we didn't get a chance to eat prior to the flight. Thought it was a nice offering on a 9 hour flight in the middle of the flight instead of just Kind bars, Goldfish snacks, Biscoff cookies, and crackers and cheese. |

Yikes - I can’t believe they’re getting away with serving the same food as coach, but I guess AF have been doing that for years while charging absurd amounts for PE.
Would you recommend the bulkhead on the 350-900 or one of the normal seats? To me, a choice of Thai curry or vegan pasta sounds horrible. I'd probably just try for multiple cheese and cracker plates and ideally a salad. |
When I was booking a flight DTW-HND for next spring, PS was only about $100 more than Y. I won't be taking it, because it was to get to a cruise that was cancelled by the cruise line. Instead I'm flying EWR-ATH for a Greek islands cruise, but on OS and LH, both in PE. Apparently the food in their PE is the same as in Y, except on Austrian it's served on startling triangular china.

IIRC on AF you could special order a better paid meal selection in advance. Some of those sounded pretty good and the prices weren't excessive.

Bulkhead was nice because the person by the window can get around the person in the aisle without much of an issue. A couple minor things is that you don't have a big seat pocket in the front of you to put a tablet and other stuff like I shove in there and also the video screen tucks down between the seats and you can't watch it while sitting on the ground until you get off the ground and must be stored upon landing. Leg room was nice to have when not using the foot rest.
