On awards i don't believe they normally charge for infants. Theres no $ amount for them to calculate 10% of for them.

Thanks. Yeah, I feel like because I have a 006... ticket I have a leg to stand on if there's a problem. That said, I thought I had to pay 10% of the current fare + taxes and fees for international award lap infant. Would be great to save about $150 but seems too good to be true.

Happened to me once when my kids were little. I was also nervous because I knew there is always a cost for international lap infants, but if you have a ticket number you'll be good. It's your responsibility to book the infant's ticket and Delta's responsibility to calculate the fare. Consider it winning the lap infant lottery.

Considering I just paid way over market to upgrade PE to J on AF today, I'll take the wins I can get. Thanks a lot! :)

Just to clarify here, Delta, like all other airlines, does indeed charge for infants when the parents are on awards (some other airlines use a fixed fee which is generally a much better deal than the 10% method, particularly on premium cabin tickets). The 10% is based on the current fare in the same cabin at the time of purchase, excluding fees and taxes, and then the infant's fees and taxes get added on. Forgetting about the lap infant ticket and booking at the check-in desk can often cost 2-3 times as much as when it's bought in advance.

Sometimes the system can't generate a fare (perhaps because of complex routing or a segment is sold out in that cabin), and then these mistakes can happen.

Bumping an old thread. We're expecting our first child in October and I'd like to buy tickets ahead of that for an international trip home for Christmas. Can I book our two tickets now/any time and then add the baby once he/she are born? Ideally I can lock in the lower rate for us and then add the baby at the 10% of the then current fare in October. Do I need to have a passport for booking (will have it for travel) or can we book it (again to lock in the lower fare) a few days after birth?

Yes buy yours now. You can't book the infant ticket till they're born. You need their name and DOB to book, thus have to wait on their ticket.

Passport not needed to book with Delta. Other carriers YMMV.

To answer your first question: Yes. To accompany an adult on an already-booked adult ticket for an international flight with DL, the lap child can be added at anytime -- with or after the booking of an adult ticket for the flight(s) -- as long as the lap child ends up being booked and ticketed prior to check-in and/or ticketing cut-off time.

To answer your second question: Yes.

To answer your third question: International flight travel can be booked by DL even in the absence of a passport for the named passenger(s). Applies as much for adult tickets as for lap child tickets.
