DELTA SKYMILES program need change
 

Only American Express DELTA SKYMILES wont a allow to transfer miles between spouse. You have to pay to transfer miles can you believe these guys. Every other Credit card allows to free transfer except AEDS (American Express Delta Skymiles)
I think its about time for them to make those changes.

What credit cards are you referring to? Please be specific.

You know you can book tickets for you (or anyone) from your spouses account right? SkyMiles never expire so have your +1 keep earning then book from that account. Sure pooling points would be nice but not how Delta plays the game. Heck, they even take your points away when you die (aka Delta DieMiles) so why do you think they would EVER allow pooling of points?

OP, it sounds like you have a Delta Amex, which earns you Skymiles in lieu of credit card points. I think you might be confusing these miles with other credit card points, such as ultimate reward points from Chase or Starpoints from SPG. With those other cards, you have a point currency which you can spend of various things and you can transfer them for free to any of their partners. While any of the airline branded credit cards earn you airline miles, and thus you can't transfer out of the airline at all, and only with a fee to other members. As others have mentioned, most airlines don't allow free transfers from one person to another.

are we just listing things that we personally would benefit from? Or are we making moral arguments that a totally arbitrary set of rules "should" be replaced with a different totally arbitrary set of rules?

OP has obviously stewing over this for some time as their last post was in 2009!

Different cards have different rules on earnings etc It's not DLs fault you may have chosen the wrong card / airline programme or not kept up with changes to the programmes

I get the rules are rules thing, but I agree with OP here.

Lets say my wife and I each have 200k miles in our separate SM accounts. Now, lets say we want to book a 40k mile award ticket. She has a higher status than me, so it's better for our upgrade odds if we are on the same PNR. So, she books both and spends 80k miles.

Now I have 200k miles and she has 120k miles. Next, we want to book a 140k mile ticket, but we can't! We have enough miles between us, but would have to spend serious money to do the transfer.

It's mildly annoying.

Im trying to understand the complaint...what does amex have to do with this? In fact, what does any credit card have to do with this? You spend on amex's delta cards and they go to your skymiles account. Period. OP seems to be whining about 2 unrelated things. Amex/Credit cards allowing transfers, but airlines not.

I agree, I think OP is a bit mixed up. The complaint about the SkyMiles program is legit, but this has nothing to do with the AMEX CC.

Of course, once you earn SkyMiles, you can't transfer them to another program! It would be nice to be able to transfer them to another person for free though, or at least to the family for free.

Different cards and programs have different rules. There are reasons for those. They may not be what you want as a customer, but they are to preserve revenue and manage the cost of the program. If the program, whether the FFP or CC or both, are not to your liking, it is a bad program for you. Or it's something you don't like, but decide there are other benefits to.

Well, 'legit' is up to interpretation. I dont know of any airline that allows free mileage transfers (with good reason). I can see why people would want it, but i can also see why its not allowed.

True, no airlines allow it, and of course, they do it very much on purpose as well. That being said, it would be awesome if it was allowed.
