Well, 'legit' is up to interpretation. I dont know of any airline that allows free mileage transfers (with good reason). I can see why people would want it, but i can also see why its not allowed.

True, no airlines allow it, and of course, they do it very much on purpose as well. That being said, it would be awesome if it was allowed.
Jetblue - free Korean Air - free Asiana Air - free Turkish - IIRC, only if you are an elite Aeromexico - IIRC, free British Airways - free Hawaiian - IIRC, free if you are a CC holder Qantas - free ANA - free Japan Air - free |
Interesting - I didn't know any of that.
In that case, get on it Delta! |
BA is not free to transfer between accounts unless you are Gold (and there are restrictions on that)
From https://www.britishairways.com/trave...s/public/en_gb You can also top-up another Member’s account, when they live at a different address from you, by transferring Avios to them. That way, they can enjoy their next reward* flight sooner.

I didnt know that many airlines offered it either. Good to know! But it doesnt change that the OP seems to be missing the point of how branded credit cards work :) OPs complaint is that the Delta Amex doesnt allow transfers, which of course it doesnt. YOUR card goes to YOUR SkyMiles account. Beyond that, complaining about how 'every other credit card' allows it, shows simply that OP doesnt know what hes complaining about?

May be possible

Only American Express DELTA SKYMILES wont a allow to transfer miles between spouse. You have to pay to transfer miles can you believe these guys. Every other Credit card allows to free transfer except AEDS (American Express Delta Skymiles)
I think its about time for them to make those changes. |

It would be nice if credit card Authorized Users could earn into their own account. To my knowlege, you can't even do that with a regular Amex Membership Rewards (only the MR account master can transfer to his or her name).

I think the simplest solution is for DL to allow linking of SM accounts between confirmed spouses, so the booking party can draw from the combined pool of SMs without having to transfer or pay egregious fees and jump over egregious humps. |
Sun Country has free points pooling, and joining a pool also prevents one's points from ever expiring. Yes, SY/UFly's value has plummeted and seems to worsen by the day, but it's a useful alternative in a pinch ex-MSP.

But you can borrow Skymiles from Amex
If you hold a Delta Amex Platinum cc, one can borrow miles from future cc mileage earnings to book an award flight faster. You have to earn back the borrowed miles within six billing periods, or Amex charges 2.5 cents per mile for the remaining miles not yet earned back. Not sure if Delta Amex Gold cc offers this. This works well. I borrowed 20,000 miles to book a 160,000 asia award in “low” six months ago for a trip in August. Had I waited until I earned the remaining miles that I needed, low availability would have been gone. |

Well, the topic of this thread was transfer between family members / spouse. IIRC, Household Accounts can pool for free.
And a HHA needs to be actively set up - living at the same address does not automatically create a HHA. |
Would be great if you could take the best features from every FFP and ditch the worst ones.
The better question here --- not that DL is asking --- is what would you give up to obtain a "pooling" feature understanding that it's all or nothing, e.g., you can't select "pooling" and the next guy selects something else. There's nothing wrong with wanting what's best for you --- it's called consumer choice --- but, wanting isn't getting. |
Tho I think its also important to make sure the OP understands which system is responsible for what. OP repeatedly calls out American Express, and states that 'every other credit card....', which is absolutely unrelated to how airlines allow sharing of miles. As others have said, sure its easy to want the best for the program you use, but....just because another company does it, doesnt mean Delta will (or amex will)
