Good luck today! Major issue hasn’t been snow but rather wind direction creating a situation where MSP currently is operating on one runway (runway 4). This slows departures and arrivals considerably - many planes last night had to deice twice, returned to gate for fuel or to avoid fines for tarmac rule. Hopefully they get the 12/30s open today to increase the rate of arrivals and departures and be closer to deice pads.

FlightAware currently says inbound flights are delayed an average of 2 hours and 26 minutes due to snow and ice and I expect that number to get worse not better. At least it’s Saturday, slowest day of the week for airlines.

Just flew into MSP. We were delayed landing by 20 minutes as we circled. The pilot announced that the airport was being alternately “closed and opened”. I assume that meant the runways were being plowed.

Driving away from the airport now. Traffic speeds are 30-40mph on 494.

I've seen quite a few diverts. One Sun Country flight from JFK diverted to Duluth, tried to make it into MSP again and then got diverted to Fargo. I’d avoid MSP today and tomorrow morning if possible. The winds are the problem, really.

We are under blizzard warning where I live south of the airport. Much more snow is now anticipated - current forecast is for 8-12 inches. Winds are really strong, in my area up to 50 mph gusts.

Local news said that we are on our way to the coldest April EVER.

I agree.

The Blizzard Warning was recently expanded into the MSP area. Through this evening, wind gusts over 40mph and snowfall rates near 2 inches/hr in the heavy snowbands will make travel dangerous. Apparently, all runways are now closed at MSP.

DL11 from LHR (which I flew in on yesterday, instead of today, thankfully) and DL163 from AMS both just diverted to Cincinnati. Gonna be a long day for some folks.

Update: MSP airport is functionally closed until 7 p.m. CT tonight:

Due to a lack of visibility and the fast rate of snowfall, no flights are currently taking off or landing at MSP. We're hoping to resume flight operations by 7 p.m.

Sorry for the above post. The screen shot didn’t work but I’m having trouble deleting the weird link.

Oh man. its gonna be a doozy.

Flying MCI-MSP-LAX-PVG, starting 6.30 am Sunday. I just booked a one way ticket on Southwest MCI-LAX for tomorrow morning. I am 99% sure that MCI-MSP-LAX segment is not gonna happen tomorrow morning at 6.30.

DTW got HND (DL120), CDG (DL141),and an AMS (DL161) flight. DL just sent an A332 from JFK to DTW as DL9958. Not clear if it's to help move pax or unrelated.
