Baby in First Class?
Hi folks,
As a new PM, I'm really excited about the free First Class upgrades. I'll be flying to PBI soon with the wife and baby. The baby will be a lap child. Are there are rules regarding babies in First? For example, if we get upgraded, would there be any issue if our little dude wis with us? Thanks! |
Don't think there are any "rules", but you won't be popular with your fellow first class passengers.
I was in Delta One recently on a flight from Amsterdam to Seattle, and an infant in the Delta One cabin was squawking ear-piercing screeches for much of the flight. Nobody regardless of service class should expect to endure repeated and ongoing ear-splitting shrieks of infants (most people are reasonably gracious and willing to tolerate some short term noise), but you sort of think that if you're riding up front, you stand a good chance of being spared. If you do bring your little one, at least act like you're TRYING to calm baby down if he/ she starts making horrific noises. |
Haha. Thanks. He's not the horrific noise type of baby, and we are not the type of parents to let that happen without an effort.
Dually noted. |
Absolutely no problem at all.

Speak for yourself, I love babies. |
The only "rule" that I learned the hard way to adhere to was to bring along something for baby to suck on or chew on (depending on baby's age) to clear their ears during takeoff and landing. Best is nursing/bottle for younger babies. If your baby is that age, time feedings before the flight to make sure baby is hungry. An under-2 is too young for gum but there are things they can chew -- gummies, etc. This is for your baby's comfort, it can be very painful.

Good luck getting upgraded out of PBI... not the easiest airport to get upgraded out of.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. We've flown with the little guy on 4 round trip flights so far, so we are well equipped with all the toys, food, etc.
Thanks! |
Pfft to people that side eye you for daring to have a baby and leave the house, not everyone is a baby hater. Good luck on upgrades and flights.

My toddler is three now and he’s ridden with me in first class IAH-MSP, MSP-STL, MSP-SAN and SEA-KOA, all on upgrades. . He has every right to be there. Hope your little one enjoys it too.

Why not do what (some) Hong Kong parents do? Fly in F/J and stick the kid with the helper back in Y.

I've flown overseas with parents with infants in business class, so I can't imagine that it would be any different in first class.
On our long haul flight, we never actually heard more than a few gurgles out of the baby. The parents were up and down a lot, but the baby was very quiet. |
