If one has GM/PM/DM status and buys up to F on an award ticket does that then allow them to SDC to another flight with an open premium seat that day?

It feels like it ought to according to the rules, but even if that were true in theory it doesn't mean it would be handled smoothly that way in practice. Please contribute a data point if you find out :)

BTW status does not affect SDC eligibility (it only affects whether you pay $75 for it)

True. I should have been clearer.

I belive the buy up would be an add-on in this case. Ie specific to the ticketed flights only, make a change and lose the upgrade.

Do these remain in the original award class or rebook into RY/OY? tried searching but most discussion (reasonably) revolves around the MQD/MQM question.

Mine rebooked into RY.

FCM upgrade on award ticket

Booked an N-class award ticket, and Delta is now offering an upgrade to F for ~$100.

Will I earn miles for flying F like I would if it was a revenue bucket after the upgrade?

Seems like this topic comes up every two weeks or so on here now, but the short answer is you will only earn MQDs and RDMs for the UG price, but no MQMs or MQSs.

Received this offer when checking in.

The original award was 35K each. No thanks.

I'm not sure what difference it makes what the original award cost. The original Y ticket is a sunk cost, whether you paid cash or miles.

I would say that's actually a pretty reasonable offer!

Exactly what's to be expected with the new "miles as a currency" thing DL is pushing.

We're already upgraded to C+. Not sure if it was $659 each or both? Regardless, no thanks. It only applies to the 1st leg PDX-NRT. We'll do just fine in C+. If it was a Korean Air 777, I'd be all over it.

"upgrade applies to all passengers"

I'm cynical enough to think that that message could just mean you have to upgrade all pax, but that's still the per-person price, so I'd still want to see the next screen to be sure.

pvn Dec 23, 2018 10:52 am

When I've seen it in the past on a multi-pax PNR it always explicitly says "per passenger"

Does anyone have any experience upgrading a domestic economy ticket (fare class N), paying for an upgrade to F using cash, and then crediting to a partner airline (AirFrance)?

No experience, but from above it seems these rebook into OY (and formerly maybe RY) and I doubt any of OY, RY, or N will earn anything in FB since they're not listed, and award tickets are specifically excluded.

any recent reports? i would happily redeem skypesos/buy Y and then buy up if it means it'd be cheaper than paying directly for first

estedman Mar 26, 2019 10:06 pm

I would be all over that PDX-NRT like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

For those who have received these offers at check in, did you check in on the website or the app? Does it make a difference?

Bump. I am very curious to hear answers to this.

I recently booked 4 award tickets MSP-SEA-LIH at the Main Cabin rate. One passenger (wife) is Diamond and another (daughter) is Silver. To maximize the chances of an upgrade, I booked the 4 tickets under 2 separate PNRs. The PNR with my wife got upgraded immediately to Comfort.

Now, when pulling up the booking on the app when logged in as a Diamond, I see an offer to upgrade to First for ~$300. OTOH, when I login to the app as a No Status Nobody under the PNR with my daughter who is Silver (with upgrades to Comfort and First requested) I see an offer to upgrade for $129 to First Class and $95 for Comfort.

My question is - Will this cover all the 4 segments MSP-SEA-LIH-SEA-MSP? Or just the outbound? Or just the initial MSP-SEA? Currently some of the seat maps on 3/4 flights look wide open so I am optimistic of scoring at least a couple of the segments. The trip is still couple of months away though

I believe the website occasionally shows offers either way, i.e. sometimes priced for an entire direction, but sometimes a misleading teaser price just for one segment to induce you to jump on it. Less sure that the app does it both ways.

The prices you mentioned sound like single segments, but there's an easy way to find out -- just tap on it and you'll see the total price. For example:

But on tapping on the Select button;

crazyhorse Jun 18, 2019 9:35 am

DUH! I guess it was a teaser after all. The $129 was just for the MSP-SEA segment. The next one from SEA-LIH was $223. Guess I'll hope for a free one :)
