Delta to order 100+ Airbus A321neo Aircraft

According to CNN, Delta set to place huge order with Airbus - Dec. 13, 2017

In what would be a blow to American aerospace giant Boeing, Delta Air Lines is set to order around 100 jetliners from European rival Airbus, according to two people familiar with the deal.

CNN being a bit dramatic as usual...I don't think anyone is surprised by this...even at Boeing.

I take joy in that they probably didn't get a very good deal.

1. AA has a deal with Airbus in that they are owed a rebate if any US carrier gets a lower price than what AA paid Airbus for their planes.

2. I doubt Boeing tried very hard. They know Delta will only order from Airbus.

With the retirement of the oldest 757-200s as the refurbishment grinds to completion, note that, on average, the A320s are older than the remaining 757-200s. :p

Wow! I'll be damned. Unfortunately for Boeing, they didn't order 737-MAX8 or MAX10. I am so disappointed myself. :(

Big congrats to Airbus. Hopefully they will delivery the first A321neo to Delta.

Not a surprise but another big win for passenger comfort (the extra inch of seat width versus a 757 or 737 makes a big difference in my experience). Between the CS100s, A350s, and A321, kudos to Delta for continuing to push away from grossly undersized seats.

Can the neo replace 75S for flatbed ops to europe and on transcons?

That's an interesting question. There was a question about where DL was going to find all of the 75S's to fill all the new D1 TCON routes. Throwing a few flatbeds onto a A321 would certainly help supplement the fleet.

Giving the execs in chicago the finger and telling them to pound sand after the CS100 fiasco

Wonder if these will be configured the same as the current A321. If so, definitely a plus over the 739.
While I prefer Boeing in general, whats been done with the 739 in terms of comfort is a mess.

That's ok. Our president just gave Delta the finger by telling them to shut up about Open Skies and the ME3. Delta only wants subsides when it is in their favor. Now they will be captive to Airbus for future orders. Good luck getting the best deal. Meanwhile Boeing will be cranking out the Boeing 777X for the ME3 to provide Americans with more nonstop options to more destinations than ever before.

For transcons, certainly, assuming DL puts D1 seats in them. After all, both AA and B6 already run A321s on transcons with flats beds. For TATL I’m not sure. A quick Google search puts the range of the A321 NEO around 4500 miles though those ranges are dependent on many factors and that 4500 mile figure may not be the best number to go off of, though if it’s close, that definitely puts much of Europe within range of JFK and the Northeastern US on the A321 NEO

Is Delta still shopping around for 757s? The more, the merrier.

Yes they can do TATL, I believe they need a different configuration. BA fly dinky A318s JFK to LCY (London).
