Yes, but . . .

Healthy alert well-dressed people who don't drink or sleep is a clue.

And they can bump 360's out of their aisle seat in FC.

True, but all the airlines have that policy, and from the accounts on here, the last minute musical chairs seems to be primarily on Delta. And the swaps are almost never for the better. When airlines charge extra for specific seats within the same class, they really ought to stop hiding behind their “no guarantees” mantra.

Actually, it seems to be a lot more common on United. There's a multi-years-old thread there about it.

I just got bumped from EC seat 15f to 15e coming out of LAX on a 757. No equipment change. I am a diamond and love looking outside the entire trip. I do not like the middle seat and don’t understand how I got bumped out of it. Can’t wait to ask My seat mate how they procured this seat. Ridiculous.

The time to get this resolved is before the plane takes off, preferably before the GA shuts the door. If you'd rather have the miles, (and you're the complaining type) write to DL after you land and express your concern. They will probably throw you a bone.

Asking the passenger is a pretty bad move, it's not going to solve your issue, and the passenger is almost certainly unaware of what's going on, you're just going to create a bunch of tension for no benefit.

Asking and posting might help to resolve the mystery of DL’s musical chairs.

The passenger almost certainly doesn't know the answer.

If the passenger knows, it's probably a case of shenanigans of some sort and the passenger won't tell. Maybe the passenger is a friend of the GA.

The passenger almost certainly knows when and through what method s/he received a seat assignment. That alone may be partly instructive.
