I lagree with you about truthfulness...but given how many folks on FT and in the rest of the world demand instant dismissal for any airline employee who screws up at all (not on THIS thread I'm glad to see!!:D) one can't blame folks for perhaps saying something that sounds more.....blameless...

As to weather delays...you do realise the weather ELSEWHERE may be what delayed the INbound aircraft...right? Weathers great here right now...but if I'm waiting on a flight from Houston....well...might be SOL....;)

P.S. My favorite is the photo of a departure board at a Chinese airport that read.. "Flight XXX delayed for some reasons" No kidding!

We had an inter-Europe flight this summer, showed up to the airport just before the baggage cutoff and couldn't figure out why the kiosk couldn't find our reservation. Went to the counter, still couldn't figure it out. Lo and behold I finally saw on the BP (that I had printed out at home a month earlier) that I had booked us for May instead of June!!! It was a once/week flight and now it was too late to check bags so we had to take a connection instead for 3x the price and made it to the wedding just as the ceremony began.

Confused. How did you think you'd be able to print a BP a month before the flight?

From RyanAir.com:

Early check-in is open 30 days from the time of departure and is available with the purchase of a seat. Standard (free) check-in is open 4 days from the time of departure.

Never seen that on any airline. Is there a benefit to checking in that early?

Also, here's some verbiage from EasyJet.com:

With easyJet you can check in online for free from 30 days and up to two hours before your flight’s scheduled departure, from desktop or our mobile app

As far as a benefit? If you paid for a seat assignment, I can't think of one, at the moment, besides doing it at ticketing so you don't forget, because, if you check-in at the airport, it costs something like 40 Euros extra!.

If you don't pay extra for a seat choice, I know on RyanAir, there's a certain algorithm that their system uses to dole out seats at check-in. My last trip was SXF/BTS/SXF for 20 Euros all in! :). I closely followed the online stories of how their system doles out seats at check-in, and I DID get either an aisle or window for both flights! :)
