How DL is enhancing my appreciation of ad blockers.

A day or so ago, I went onto DL.dum to see if it was practicable to fly from PHL to PIT.

As additional background, there are only two web sites that I routinely visit which have been able to defeat my ad blocker.

For some time now, each time I visit either of those two web sites, I have been bombarded with DL ads.

But... it gets better. Since my inquiry about a PHL-PIT itinerary, the ads (up to three per page simultaneously) now contain content like:

  • "Fly With Us to Pittsburgh... See Today's Fares"
  • "Almost There... Fly With Us to Pittsburgh"
  • "Watch the watch. Watch the watch. Repeat after me... 'I will fly to Pittsburgh' "

(Just kidding with the third, but the first two are real.)

No immediate harm done... just another example of marketers seeking to invade our privacy. And, a reminder of Orwell's omnipresent telescreens in 1984.

Thanks, DL. You have reinvigorated my search for an even better ad blocker.

You can thank PHD NYC who places their advertising.....feel free to complain to DL. Retargeting is some of the most annoying advertising out there.

I'm not sure if we're supposed to be shocked by this news or what, but this is 100% standard practice for how web ads work. Basically it sounds like you're upset that Delta has a marketing department.

I had to re-enable my ad blocker on FT because the darn ads somehow move my browsing scroll to another part of the page randomly. Ultra annoying.

I use a VPN with an Adblocker built in. 80 bucks for two years works great.

But Delta often errors out when visiting them with it, I think they block the ip address used by the VPN. I have to change servers a few times to find the perfect one that works with delta.

Anyway, I assume you found it was impractical to fly DL from Philly to PIT, unless...
* you have lots of time
* money is no object
* you really need the miles or segments

Don't need the miles.

Time was not unreasonable.

Remaining trade-off is the decision between cost and the goal of avoiding AA (the pseudo-airline formally know as USAir).

Would any ad blocker really prevent them from collecting data about you? Or would it just hide those targetted ad?

Thanks for reminding me. Just re-installed the latest version of Ad Block Plus for Chrome.

"The FlyerTalk team works very hard to keep the site free for you and provide the best possible content." Ahhhhhh peace and quiet from annoying ads here now.

You forgot part 2:

this is exactly correct. The OP willingly told delta he was interested in flights from one city to another.
