Sean-anigans?

"Delta reportedly wanted to reward [Sean] Penn for his action—or rather in-action—and upgraded him and his daughter to first class."

Perhaps the next time I am in coach on a D-1 flight... and I calmly handle an overhead bin dispute... DL will waive normal policies and procedures and UG me too.

Odd...

pvn Jun 2, 2017 10:26 am

so a paying customer got an upgrade that would otherwise have gone to a nonrev and we're mad about that?

I would think it was more of a 'we chose someone that didn't create a scene' over some other made up reason for upgrade.

So if I stand in the aisle and help everyone load their bags into bins I might get upgraded? For being nice?

The real story: LAX-JFK had 2+ seats open in J.

If there were DL elites in the back with higher status than Penn (assuming he is even in the program)... Yes.

Non-famous elites, apparently. And pushing him to the front cleared the space for those other people, so they got their way. And I bet that was the rationale.

JFK<-->SEA used to be no-upgrade, and that lasted for about 4 months in 2014. And THAT caused (and still causes on JFK<-->SFO/LAX, I guess) planes taking off with a bunch of bin space empty in front, and THAT led to some late takeoffs and passengers in the back having to haul their bags back up front to gate check because there was no room. I was a PM and always liked to be in position at the beginning of boarding, so I never gate checked out of necessity, but it was somewhat annoying to have the boarding more disorganized than it needed to be because Delta had this fantasy that they were going to sell the seats for $3000.

But they made up for it by introducing the Secret Upgrade List Game. I miss that.

The real Q here is why is Sean Penn buying economy class tickets on such a long flight. Reminds me of Ivanka and Jared flying coach on Jet Blue to Hawaii.

But B list (or lower) actors do?

If the sacrosanct rules can be broken for Hollywood, they can be broken for us little people.

Obviously there was a reason it wasn't just because was an actor. Plenty of actors have flown in Y.

I doubt it hurt.

How on earth is he a B-list actor? He is working less, I guess, because he's starting to get old, but he's still very spry.
