How on earth is he a B-list actor? He is working less, I guess, because he's starting to get old, but he's still very spry.
But anyways elites don't get upgrades but 'being nice' and 'helpful' and 'not creating a scene' can net an upgrade? |

The real Q here is why is Sean Penn buying economy class tickets on such a long flight. Reminds me of Ivanka and Jared flying coach on Jet Blue to Hawaii.
I work with a guy who was a high ranking exec at major investment bank who "retired" into a low-stress advisory role at my company because he enjoys working. If he isn't worth 10 figures, he is pretty darn close. He could easily afford his own jet and more importantly the fuel for it. He also flies B6  |

If there were DL elites in the back with higher status than Penn (assuming he is even in the program)... Yes.
DL has a VIP list of Actors, News Media, Executives, and politicians. There's a whole computer backend that looks for them on BPs and alerts operations folks at DL HQ when their flights IROPS. I've been told they often refer to it internally as the "Brokaw" system stemming from an incident when Tom Brokaw was left stranded in the middle of nowhere for a MX. Supposedly he lit them up during the Nightly News the next day Be that as it may, he's a Union Actor: When a performer is required to fly at the request of the Producer, all flights shall be business class when available and, if not available, first class. There is a major exception to this rule. Coach class* air travel is acceptable in the following circumstances: For domestic flights that are less than 1,000 air miles when the flight is non-stop; For non-stop flights between LA and Vancouver; For non-stop flights that are less than 1,000 miles between the US and Vancouver or between the US and Toronto; If a substantial number of the company is being transported; If 6 or more performers travel together in the same class on the same flight; or For auditions and interviews. *Producer must provide elevated coach class (e.g., Economy Plus, extended leg room, etc.) when available. Performers who travel by coach class shall be reimbursed by Producer for baggage fees and costs of in-flight meals provided performer submits receipts and request for reimbursement within 30 days after the flight. |

Who cares what class actor he is. I mean he peaked in the 80s with Fast Times...

Anyway, this thread caused me to do a search on him and stumble on a documentary he narrated about a subject I have been interested in for years. I too wonder why he was moved up. The details in the story are thin, but I speculated above that it opened up the space for the people who got mad because his things were in "their" bin space. |
I know he has. Saying that is his peak IMO.

TWA had a policy back in the day that CSAs were to automatically upgrade any famous person or personality if they notice who they are. Saw this happen a couple of times. Sat beside Bob Cummings in FC who was upgraded by a swooning CSA.

Peaked in the 1980's? Might want to google Sean Penn and his acting accomplishments.

This never happened. JetBlue does not serve Hawaii.

President Jimmy Carter flew in Y on his way to the inauguration this year. He reportedly flies in Y quite often.
