TLV-JFK (via SVO) on Aeroflot

Hi all:

Has anybody here done this trip? There are a couple of low level award seats available on the date we want (we already have it booked for a day later on KL/DL via AMS, but a day earlier is better, not to mention a better departure time). Is SVO still a nightmare to transit?

I did it a couple of years ago and found it fine, the only slightly odd thing was a passport check for international transit passengers but it was just a quick look

Every award that I've looked at using SU through SVO has $300+ fees and taxes. Compared to $60 to $80 on DL/KL/AF metal through CDG or AMS.

I flew TLV-JFK via SVO in November. While the $300 fee for transit via SVO is steep, overall it was a great trip. I was surprised at how many passengers who were on my TLV-SVO flight made the connection and flew onward to JFK. I flew in J on an award ticket; have flown J on more airlines and routes than I can remember internationally, but have to say the SU service was exceptional. As the prior poster mentioned, having to show passports was an odd experience, but not bad. SU lounge was fine. Totally recommend this trip option.

International origin surcharge is collected for SU-operated flights, even with a U.S. origin. It's $99.30 JFK-SVO in coach presently.

I international transited through SVO twice in the last 2 weeks, both times very quick and easy.

After deplaning, simply follow the Transit signs, show your connecting boarding pass (or get one from the service desk), and head to your next gate. Not more than a 5 minute delay, really.

One transit was from Terminal D to Terminal F, which is a bit of a long walk- 20 minutes at a good pace, and the terminals along the way are crowded. But no issues, just a long walk.

On a side note, the lounges at SVO are OK. Not great not terrible. Depending on timing, they can be empty and quiet. The SVO lounges in WAW were really nice and new, with good hot and cold foods and tempting desserts and pastries...
