A 15 hour callback?

Called Delta yesterday at 1:55pm PT, asked for a callback.

After a few hours, I figured they'd probably dropped me from their system. Still '2+ hours' hold time, so figured I'd try again tomorrow.

Low and behold... it's now 5:20am PT in California, and my phone just rang. It's Delta, and I'm 'next in line'!

I know the tricks about calling the intl call centers, etc., but are they really experiencing a 15 hour hold time at the US call centers?

No status, FWIW.

Several major weather systems impacting the US at the same time plus having a shooting in your terminal in FLL will tend to have an impact on your call volume. There are 7 different waivers up on the delta.com website right now.

With DM status, my hold time Saturday night was 21 minutes. There was a recording saying that things were bad and predicting a hold time of 13-21 minutes.

My significantly delayed flight DTW-ATL-XXX yesterday morning resulted in a recording saying 13-18 minute hold time on the DM line. Received return call in 15 minutes. Enough time to get to the SC and check on alternative flights, which were booked through the afternoon.

21 minutes doesn't seem too bad. Even an hour or two for a lowly no-status member.

I sort of wonder if I'd not done the callback... would I have literally been on hold for 15 hours? That has to be some kind of a record. :)

Next time opt for the callback. Then call back and wait on hold. See which one wins the race.

Maybe the Mods will append this to the Southeast weather waiver thread. FlightAware shows 1/7/17 was not a good day for Delta, for Delta Connection carriers, or anybody flying to/thru ATL, RDU, JFK/LGA/EWR...

That kind of weather event could lead to 100,000+ passenger rebookings across the DL system on a single day. Use the app when you can.

Yes, my callback was 3 hours yesterday. Worst I have ever had. Exercise patience.

I got a fabulous tip this morning from WWads who suggested calling an international office. I called Singapore via Skype and was in and out in 5 minutes. Best advice ever!

I waited 9 hours for a call yesterday and missed it thanks to a bathroom break. Imagine my agony knowing it was probably Delta calling and there was nothing I could do!

ETA: Just realized you said you know about calling international centers.

Yeah although I didn't know it was that big of a difference. 15 hours vs 5 mins?

Its something of a wonder DL can't shunt traffic to those locations when things get busy here... I mean corporations have no problem sending stuff to the Philippines, etc. for normal ops...

AFAIK the international call centers do help with domestic call loads when available, but their queues aren't identical to domestic call centers.

If you do that you end up canceling the callback. It recognizes your phone number and asks if you really want to start restart your place in line and hold on the phone.

Definitely an ugly weather day - as a Diamond I'm used to not having any queue, even during moderate weather events, so the ~15 minute wait I experienced today is an indication things are Very Bad (tm). 15 hours does seem a little extreme, but for someone at the back of the priority queue it's not a total shock...

I had a drastic schedule change a while back and not during any big delays that I was aware of. I called Delta when i read my e-mail and it was a 4 hour hold. I hung up and called back a couple hours later and it was a 2 hr. hold. I hung up and called back late in the evening and the hold time was trivial.

So the reason I called in was because I had a flight to FLL tomorrow, but given all that's going on (not just the shooting, but the weather everywhere, etc.) I decided not to go. Totally optional trip for me, and I can easily do it another time.

They offered a full credit of my ticket: $654.20 back to me, and said I can book another flight within the 1 year period since original issuance. I go on the website, and it says the ticket value is $454.20... (e.g. they charged a $200 change fee)

They claimed 'oh you have to call in to rebook your tickets' if you want the full value. Can't do it on the website.

I'm a Delta newb, so does that hold water? Seems like the website should show $654.20. I don't have a huge issue calling in to book (minus the 15 hour hold times! :) ), but then I'm charged a telephone booking fee, and may have to fight with them over the $200 if it wasn't actually waived.
