ATL Groundstop

Like winter snows at MSP and DTW, summer storms are rocking the ATL traffic patterns. Sitting at BHM in FC with a PDB and half way through boarding gate agent advises a Groundstop at the ATL! Sounds like it could be a fun night for agents for flights to and those in ATL. Best of luck to all :)

ATL has actually been pretty lucky lately. It's been NYC that's been smashed with WX ground stops pretty much every other day.

Best of luck!

DTW rarely gets ground stops for snow --- thunderbumpers are a different story

and my experience with ground stops is they usually aren't a problem if you're connecting at that airport
because everything stops

connections in other cities is a different story !!!

Turned out to be a short one but still many missed connections I heard on my flight. Thankfully made mine!

Went through a 2-hour stop at DCA last night.

True, but usually a stop is preceded or followed by reduced capacity. And unfortunately they typically give preference for wide-body planes or international flights when things are restricted (because it gets more passengers on their way per flight). Not what you want if you are trying to connect from a regional location like BHM to an INTL flight!

Yeah, except unless it's a really significant snow, MSP and DTW can (usually) actually handle the snow.

a fairly common occurrence in the south during T-storm season.

LGA was hell on Sunday afternoon/evening. I'd estimate that 30-40% of all of the flights on the departure board were cancelled.

I had one LGA-PIT flight delayed, delayed, then outright cancelled. The next flight was just delayed about an hour.

Despite the bad day everyone at LGA was having, the termianl D SC staff was nothing short of exceptional.

That's because they're all regional airlines operating as Delta Connection that don't have the operational performance that real Delta has.

Both of my flights were on Delta Connection carriers. It was a rough day.
