+1. For an upcoming trip, both certificates I spent show as CLOSED now that the ticket has been reissued, even though the first segment hasn't departed yet.

Semi-related to this topic...
I recently flew LAX-JFK with my girlfriend. We were both booked in Y (K and L fares, nothing special as far as I know), and two days before departure I called Delta to see if I could use two of my RUC's to upgrade us to business. Upgraded space was available and we were both reassigned to seats in the J cabin (new fare code was OP). When I logged into my wallet a few days later, I noticed that only one RUC had been used, despite both of us being upgraded. Is that the normal process for RUC's or did I get away with something? |

Phone agent called support desk and they said they'd reopen one of them and should be reflected within 24 hours. ^ for quick resolution if that occurs as promised

For a waitlisted RUC that clears at the gate, does anyone have a sense of when these typically move from OPEN to CLOSED?
Historically when they clear in advance and are reticketed this occurs almost immediately. Also if memory serves me correctly I remember waitlisted certs closing within a couple business days following travel. My wife and plat colleague traveled two weeks ago (separate flights) and both certs are still showing OPEN.. coincidence, error in coding or is it really taking this long these days? |
For what it's worth...
Two years ago I flew to DUB with the wife on GUCs. I looked at my account several months later to find the same GUCs still open. So booked another trip to LHR returning out of STR and was able to use them again. :) Same thing happened to me this year with an RUC. I know it was not a medallion upgrade as it was RP and it cleared before the window. Just goes to show how manual the process is.... It can go both ways. |

Question for two scenarios:
1. I have a GUC applied for DTW-JFK-DUB. I don't want to burn a GUC on the DTW-JFK leg, so I only apply it to JFK-DUB. This eventually clears. However, I'm not paying attention, and by the time I find out, my GUC has been closed and removed from my account. Can I still ask Delta to apply the closed GUC to the DTW-JFK leg? 2. Same as above, except FRA-AMS-SEA. The AMS-SEA is operated by Delta and clears immediately. The FRA-AMS leg is operated by KLM, has no Z inventory, and cannot be waitlisted. Weeks later, after the GUCs are closed, if I see KL Z inventory can I call and get the FRA-AMS leg also upgraded on KLM? ----- In somewhat unrelated areas, I've noticed that certificates that clear in advance are closed when the ticket is re-issued, and disappear from my account. However, certificates that clear at the gate never get an exchanged ticket number, and stay in "CLOSED" status forever in my wallet. I have one that's year+ old in closed state. |
Of course you can extend a GUC even once closed to cover flights that are eligible but weren't originally included. Just call in and ask them to extend it to cover the shorter flight. KLM agents in AMS should know (they generally know better then most DL GAs I find) that a closed GUC can still be extended to cover the other eligible flights not originally upgraded.

I used my final GUC over a month ago, but it's still showing as open on my Certificates page. I called Delta and simply asked how many GUCs I had left, and they told me one. So... what's happening here?

However, if by "I used my final GUC over a month ago", you meant that you found upgrade availability for a flight BUT have not yet flown that flight, then this probably means your ticket for that flight has not yet been reissued to reflect the upgrade class of service, which requires a "payment". Until the ticket is reissued, the GUC (which is the form of payment for the upgrade) remains in "open" status. |
So I’m curious when reticketing is supposed to occur. I applied a RUC several weeks ago to a flight in two days, but the certificate has not been used yet, and I don’t believe I’ve been reticketed as my ticket still shows the original fare class and OPEN (not exchanged). I cleared immediately into RY upon calling. Does this mean I get a free RUC or will I find out in two days? |

It is fairly unusual for a flight two days out, not to have been reissued (you'd know it'd been reissued if you had a new "Your Flight Receipt" email with a new 006 ticket number). However just statistically speaking it is far more likely that it's just pending reissue and the lack of such will hinder your ability to check in, than that you are about to get a free RUC. So if you'd rather not call in and poke the bear, then I'd allow some extra time and arrive early at the airport if you aren't able to OLCI. |
