You can also call and ask if there is current inventory before you book (and as PM or DM ticket it right there on the phone for free if you want). I did this recently to select an ATL-SFO leg where the certificate would clear immediately.

Just booked a JFK-LAX which cleared at booking and I waitlisted a LAX-JFK and booked into C+ (WU). Both flights for June on 757's.

It's been mixed for me -- mostly used between LAX and ATL or JFK. Mostly to the gate but the odd one has cleared in advance. I "wasted" two that were going to expire on LAX-SEA and back (as part of an LAX-SEA-AMS back when TCONs needed GUCs)
I am waitlisted on JFK-LAX on a Sunday evening in early May. Exactly one seat up front is gone according to the seat map. |
