GM got a complimentary upgrade before PM

I am new to FlyerTalk.

I also do not know the full upgrade policy for DL, but was unhappy when my GM friend traveling on the same flight as me (DL4981 from ATL-IAH on 11/14/2015) got upgraded, and I still haven't cleared. I am a PM at DL.

From previous posts, and from DL employees I thought that the order was Y fare medallions, DM, PM, GM, FO, companions.

How is this possible? My friend is a GM on a T fare. I am a PM on a V fare. My reservation still says "medallion upgrade requested".

Quick check, anyone else on your PNR that has status below PM?

How did your friend get upgraded for a flight in November already?

Did he pay for the upgrade?

Guessing OP meant October rather than November.

Sorry, meant 10/14, this Wednesday. There is nobody else on my reservation, and no companions.

Did the friend use miles to support the upgrade? That would come from a different inventory class (the same as upgrades with GUCs/RUCs/SWUs).

He did not use miles to upgrade. He told me that he got the upgrade Saturday around 6 PM EST. When he showed me his reservation, the fare class is First (RU).

Call DL and ask/complain. Is there a chance that the status associated with your ticket could be incorrect? Perhaps you moved from GM to PM after purchasing the ticket, although DL has been saying for a while that FF numbers don't need to be removed and re-entered in such cases.

Have you checked whether your flight currently has upgrades available? If so, a phone call should get you an upgrade.

Did your friend purchase a full Y fare ticket?

I will call the PM desk and complain. I have been a PM for a year now, and the ticket was purchased 2 weeks ago.
