The absolute second anything changes they jack the price up... they don't apologize, they don't empathize, they don't care... you pay more. These guys have a racket in place the likes of which I've never seen. I get that they pioneered this but it's sad that they have no competition to speak of, you'd think that a cable or cell company would want to get in on this deal somehow... at the prices these guys charge I can't believe there aren't some $$$ to be made. Domestically Gogo is connecting to land-based cell towers (https://www.gogoair.com/gogo/cms/work.do) so why aren't the big boys jumping in? They must have a sweet deal in place w/ the major carriers to keep them out of the game...

AT&T announced plans to build a rival service, then cancelled them last November.

It wouldn't be that hard for the existing cell companies to do, from a technical standpoint. Just add some antennas that point into the sky, as opposed to parallel with the ground. The technology that Gogo uses propagates more easily than the newer LTE technologies, but the difference isn't all that significant at the end of the day.

Gogo clearly has been able to establish a monopoly, and can charge any price as a result, even for internet that is often completely useless for the entire flight. As long as workaholics can get their employers to pay for access, Gogo makes money.

You must have missed the email where they told you about the price increase... to $59/month!

I got the email and immediately cancelled my account. $59/month for crap service is not worth it.

What I do now is tether my laptop to my iPhone as soon as a board and do an email download and dump prior to departure. Seems to be working out well for me and I am actually more productive in-flight with no email interruptions from the office.

Adios gogo!

While I agree with the sentiment, Gogo is not a monopoly, only a monopoly on DL (and the other majors, I guess). B6 and WN use different technologies, B6 charges nothing for basic service and $9/hour for more bandwidth, and WN $8 (on enabled aircraft).

As long as people keep paying Gogo prices, Gogo will keep raising prices.

But soon to be 49.99.

I would love to see a Cable Company running line up to 35,000 feet and than having enough cable line to travel from LAX-JFK. :D:D:D

I know what you are saying. It is in jest. :D:D:D:

Gogo Price Explodes

I cancelled my subscription quite a long time ago and have not missed Gogo since!

I was on the auto-renew all access path as I was flying DL and AS frequently. The service was terrible and only got more expensive. The most I do now is track a bag or check my connecting gate info. Still takes forever to load. No way I'll pay for it.

How they charge that much is beyond me (well, the fact people are paying for it is beyond me...). But, to each their own!!!

10 complementary passes with AMEX platinum card

I used my Amex Platinum card to sign up for gogo inflight service earlier this year.
I accidently figured out I have 10 complementary sign in opportunities.
I might fly 2-5 times a qtr.
So far, I have used this option twice and it worked fine!

I hope that helps.

Fortune published an article on the ("crazy") economics of in-flight Wi-Fi a couple of days ago. Apparently just seven percent of passengers opt to purchase Internet access on Gogo-equipped flights. The company continues to raise prices both to manage demand for limited bandwidth and to tap the expense accounts of corporate travelers who don't consider the cost.

I am ashamed to say that I still paid it, but looking forward, will prepare to work offline on future flights.

yea, they finally made it not worth it for me anymore. I cancelled my monthly gogo subscription.

I just logged into my account and look what I saw down in the lower left corner:

SUBSCRIPTIONS
Delta Air Lines Unlimited
Delta Traveler Pass
YOU WANTED A BREAK REMEMBER?
Your subscription has been cancelled and will not renew at the end of your current billing cycle. If you want to buy a new subscription, visit www.gogoair.com at any time.. If you want to resume your subscription before then, contact Gogo Customer Care by clicking 'Live Help.'

I got on live help and was assured that I was still an active subscriber. It still shows me at $39.99 and my last payment was debited on my CC last week. "Liz" said she would report what my account page was telling me.

I pay for my wifi out of my own pocket. But, my company pays for my home Internet and telephone so I'm ok with that. But, I rarely do any work on an airplane because of that even though I'm on the clock while in the air.
