"Did Delta have regular service to Europe from the US that used their 747s?"
Pre merger the previous owner of the planes, NW, started the practice of putting the 744 on routes at busy times, like summer DTW-AMS.
For the nostalgia buffs, here is ship 6301 in AMS getting some excellent KLM catering for its return to DTW.

If I ever run out of things to do, I will figure out how to make a Utube account and upload two videos. I have the takeoff and landing of this flight. Listening to the engines at work makes me want to cry every time I watch the vids.

Finally got the photos uploaded off my DSLR camera from when I went to the Boeing event in Everett at PAE during the Farewell Tour back in December.
