Bye, Bye Beverage Carts ?
I imagine a nightmare on the MD-90 with FAs with trays full of liquids squeezing by plus-sized passengers deciding to walk the kilometer to/from the lav during beverage service. At least the carts keep most people seated for a bit.

I wonder if the fact WN & B6 not having first class factors into their ability to make it work without a cart.

No need for the bev cart if DL & Coke can find a way to squeeze one of the new Coke Freestyle (minus all the extra flavors) or some tweaked variation of it into the galley. Think of all the flavor possibilities! :D
..And it would yield fewer empty coke cans at the end of the flight the cleanup crew has to worry about. |

Depends on the plane size, and the diversity of choices. JetBlue does this with their express service, I believe. The key is just to limit the number of choices available, and what you sell onboard.

as a plus side, all of this is minor compared to the issues we have with our dear Delta this year! |

B6, IIRC, has 3 FAs on their A320s with 150 seats, the max ratio permitted (1 FA per 50 pax). Each FA gets about 8 or 9 rows, and it works just fine. As an added benefit, you can get to a restroom during beverage service. Not sure why so many here are skeptical... it's been done for over a decade. |

The next brilliant idea out of Virginia Avenue would be to open a couple 2 liter bottles, start one at the back row, one at the front, and let everybody take a sip and pass it along. No carts, and no FAs roaming the aisles.....

Maybe integrate it into the overhead system. Can have hoses that pop down similar to the O2 masks and dispense soda or water after you swipe your credit card :p

Three FAs to serve 150 coach passengers is not the same as three FAs to serve 150 passengers, of when 16 are FC.
