ATL Exercise

Have a three hour layover in a few weeks returning from an international trip heading to LAX. As there are (sadly) no gyms in ATL and I won't have enough time to hit an area hotel I was thinking of going for a run.

While I'd love to go from T to F a few times I imagine I'd be quickly stopped. Think I could get away with getting a few miles in (without too much resistance from security) in the parking lot?

If you are a racer, bring along the pin-on number badge from your last race.

Go ahead and jog in the train tunnel and if anyone stops you, tell them you are in a race, in the lead, and that you are heading for a personal record and don't have time to talk.

:D

You could take the shuttle train to the convention center and run around the parking lot there. It's unlikely anyone will bother you there and you will not have to worry about dodging people/vehicles.

Why do you think you'd be stopped? People running through airports is a familiar sight. They'd probably just think you were trying to catch your flight. If someone notices you going back and forth, just tell them DL keeps changing your gate. ;)

Go down to the trains and run all you want from T to F and back. I am not sure what you want to do with your carry-on (maybe in the custody of your companions, if any) - note however, last time I checked there were no carry-on lockers available at ATL.

There are some, but they are closed. The sign on them indicates they are not permitted to operate when the terror alert level is above a certain threshold. Given that the color-coded HSAS was retired two years ago, I guess they're just permanently closed.

Well someone's done it before. And apparently managed to take in every jetbridge on the T concourse.

I would second the recommendation to take the sky train to the Convention Center and run a couple of laps around the parking lots there. The problem with the airport facility and that area in general are the lack of sidewalks and fast moving traffic that would make road running difficult. I don't think the loop road has sidewalks but that would be a good route for running though.

Another alternative would be to take a shuttle to the Renaissance or Hilton, leave your bags with the bellman and run around there. Virginia Ave does have sidewalks I believe and it goes into Hapeville which is a town center so traffic wouldn't be as much of an issue there.

Check out other routes on mapmyrun.com too.

There is one place airside where you can keep your carry ons (at a price). It is near the baggage retrieval area.

If you are a SkyClub member, you are allowed to leave your carry ons in it, but that is dangerous as nobody will notice if someone else decides to walk off with your stuff.

I didn't think that was airside though.

Or you could just wait until you get to L.A.

A shower is a must. That's why I didn't think I had time to go off grounds.
