The 3rd episode, "Arrival", of PBS's City in the Sky series includes footage of a DC-9 being scrapped at an Arizona boneyard. Several details (interior colors, the seats, the top of a seatback card still in a seatback, etc.) lead me to believe it was a former Delta bird.
The episode is available at the link, but I doubt the streaming will work outside of the U.S. |
This series is being discussed a bit in another thread somewhere on FT, perhaps in TravelBuzz. Someone there posted a link that highlights when various episodes are scheduled for broadcast by one's home public television station.

Really great show, I've watched all 3 episodes, agreed that it's a Delta DC-9 they were scrapping out in the desert in Arizona. Very cool footage.

There are at least two FT threads on the PBS series -- City in The Sky -ATL & DL [Delta forum] and City in the Sky - Great TV Series [TravelBuzz ] -- so further commentary about the series probably belongs in one of those threads. |
Saw this show as well... sad to see it eaten up in so quick of time.

No Tug Zone at DTW

To save time they skipped using a tug and powered back. When connecting to international flights across the aisle I liked to wait over by A29 just to watch, as it was something not seen everyday and I knew would be going away soon. Probably around 2002 to 2005 timeframe. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...77e073efbe.jpg |
Wow pretty awesome......I can remember doing that on a DC-9 as a kid in GCM........they had limited number of tugs so that is the way it went. Heck for that matter NWA flew nonstop MEM-GCM for many years in the peak season.....those were the days!
