Crack in Delta Plane?
Thought I would share an alarming story from this week. Was on my normal weekly shuttle flight from DCA to LGA, and upon arriving at the gate a LGA, the gate agent opened the front door and immediately pointed out that she saw a crack in the aircraft fuselage! The flight attendant proceeded to rush us out of the plane (I was in first class).
I sent Delta customer service an email about it as soon as I got into the office, but no response as of four days later. I fly Delta between DCA and LGA because I like them far better than US Airways (even though I have better status on the latter), but I'm not too keen on flying Delta if their pre-flight checks don't include looking for cracks in the shell of the plane. |
Crack in Delta Plane?
Golly, not sure whether to notify the FAA or DEA... |
I think there is a litte over exaggeration here. There may been a crack in the paint which is very normal. Gate agents do not have there A&P and don't know how to correctly reference things when it comes to damage.

Plus you were just arriving, how do you know it didn't happen after takeoff and the plane was then grounded to fix afterwards?

Why would they "rush" you off the plane? You were on the ground so there was no more danger (if there was any to begin with). I'd not rush to judgment based on a GA's observation of what may or may not have been a crack.

perhaps the GA wasn't 100% positive the white powder was crack and to be safe they decided to remove the pax :D
Seriously, remember that a Southwest 737 was grounded last year with a 5-foot long tear in the upper fuselage. Also remember the Hawaiian Airlines pop-top 737 a couple decades ago that killed some pax. A serious concern with all the high-cycle 737's (and others) flying around the globe. |

crack? oh, THAT crack! At least it wasn't Bubba the pipefitter's b*** crack. Bubba is a Delta DM from all his flights to the Alaska oil fields and tends to dress down for his flights in and out of SEA in FC. You don't want to be looking in his direction when he bends over.

If you were flying DCA - LGA then that is a Shuttle America aircraft, not Delta. Even if there really were a crack it would not be Delta's call to take it out of service.

I was enlisted to help fix the overhead panel on my seat using masking tape given to me by the flight attendant. The screw had come loose and since no one had a screwdriver !tape was the solution(it didn't work) BOS-ATL
