Last month STL-ATL on a Saturday AM flight I'm sitting across the aisle from a priest. He put down (5) coffee's with Baileys. Upon delivery of the last one the FA told him that was all they had. HAH!

Plane should have had more liquor. On a recent flight the FA kept filling my Tennessee Honey up, must have had 8 or 9. As it should be!

Off topic, but the last two Virgin upper class flights I was on, they tried to do the post-landing distribution and totally botched it. In both cases, 25% of the cabin had to go up and get their own coats out of the closet.

Re KL..the taxi in AMS seems worse then ATL or ORD...so yes the FA's have enough time to distribute coats once on the ground :o

Update on my experiences. Also, note that I wasn't upgraded because I managed to clear two Sunday flights through ATL as a FO. I VDB'd on my original itinerary, and was automatically cleared when rebooking on later flights. I guess that could be considered a benefit of Delta holding first class inventory until the gate, though obviously not to the PM and GM who were almost certainly sitting in the back.

The breakfast was okay, though appreciated because it let me use my meal voucher for lunch in Atlanta. I took three items from the snack basket each time (both had Sun Chips), because I was sitting near the back of the first class cabin. Regarding beverages, I ended up having three drinks on each flight, which seems about on the pace mentioned earlier of six drinks on a four hour flight. The PDX-ATL flight left at 6.20 in the morning, so it took a couple hours for anyone to feel awake enough to start drinking. I then had three in the second two hours of the flight, an three more on two hour ATL-BDL leg. I never used the call button, because the flight attendants, were as you advertised, very good at checking on us and asking if we wanted refills. (I was curious about that simply because when I flew DTW-BDL, the flight attendant came through once and then sat in the galley reading the rest of the flight, so I thought it might be the norm.) Also, I've realized I just can't appreciate quality bourbon and scotch, or at least lack the knowledge of how to properly drink them. I figured I would try both Woodford and Glenlivet, seeing as they seem to be by far the most frequently mentioned FC drinks here. I had a Woodford and Coke on the ATL-PDX flight, and the flight attendant (who I think hated me) made it extremely strong. I managed to drink it, but didn't like it, so I switched to the classic vodka and orange juice for the duration of the flight. I then tried a Glenlivet and Coke on the flight from Atlanta, and found it lacking as well. On the off chance I am upgraded again (or have the flexibility to VDB), is there a better way to sample Delta's finest than a simple mixed drink?

In all, it was a nice experience. Thanks to everyone again for the advice, and my apologies for the misleading title.

Well, you certainly were able to thoroughly test the FC experience. On the scotch/bourbon question - skip the coke, as it ruins a nice drink. At most, soda water with the bourbon, but on the rocks or neat for both is ideal. If you want to acquire a taste for bourbon, another nice mixed drink is an Old Fashoined (not sure is spelled right, maybe old fashion).

^THIS. The FA wasn't out to get you, and probably didn't hate you, service just varies, so I wouldn't take it personal.

I would hardly say a screwdriver is classic, perhaps notorious around the frat house is better.
Also, the Glenlivet that DL serves is a Scotch Whiskey that is aged for 12 years in oak barrels that have previously served as wine casks. It is single malt, meaning the sources have not been mixed, so you are supposed to get a better, more intense flavor. While at the same time, the aging in wine casks is supposed to give you a subtle taste of the fruity wine that has been there before. This is a long rant to explain why scotch is not supposed to end up in "a simple mixed drink" -- period. Luckily for you, the FA's don't know any of this, so your mistake most likely went unnoticed.
If you like mixed drinks with Coke, the Bacardi and Coke is nice. And as canadatosiberia mentioned, if you are trying to acquire a taste for whiskey (bourbon, scotch, etc.), then on the rocks or with a touch of water is nice. For the Woodford, I would order it neat and then mix in a little water from my dasani bottle. It's important to do this yourself, because I don't trust the FA's (and apparently neither does the OP) to make my drinks the way I'd like it.
Oh well, glad you got your UG and got to try some whiskey.

Worse than the 5th runway in ATL that seems to be about halfway between the terminal and Florida? (Seriously, at least a 15 minute taxi to the closest gate if there is no traffic!)

I connected in AMS to DAR and thought we may just roll to DAR instead of flying.

I'm not sure when but last year I noticed they started to serve Bombay Saphire^^ gin instead of the Tanquery:td::td: that had been served!!!
Might want to try a Gin and Tonic next time!
