Not at all. My wife keeps her coat almost every time. You can get a blanket if you choose.
However, the blankets don't work for me. I end up looking like I wore a red sweater that was shedding all its red lint. |

Thank you all for the advice; I'll at least be able to pretend I've been in first class before. My flight leaves in 40 minutes, so if you have any last minute drink recommendations, please say them. Otherwise, I'll give an update after I'm done flying today.

OP, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed the flight and weren't disappointed. I have to complement you on your conscientiousness and courtesy to others. I haven't seen the word "etiquette" here on FT for a long time, as it seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird.
This thread makes me think of developing a guide to first class etiquette -- which would include things such as no bare feet, no feet on bulkhead walls or seats, not pillaging the snack basket, being courteous to others, no loud cell-phone talking, saying "please" and "thank you" to FAs... |
Just don't be the guy who takes the last bag of Sun Chips from the basket... you'll get dirty looks the rest of the flight.
Just kidding! I've been lucky enough to have had great FAs during my rides up front and haven't had to touch the flight attendant button for a refill. While I know it is a perfectly acceptable practice and that is essentially what the button is there for, I've always been a little too self-consciencous (sp?) to use it for drinks and have just waited the extra minute for a FA to walk by; 9 times out of 10 they notice I am running on empty and are back with a refill. |

I was finally upgraded on a long flight, and it'll constitute my first time sitting in Delta mainline first class on an appreciably long flight. I'm curious what the norms are regarding the snack basket and drinks. In economy, obviously, you take your one drink and then sit the rest of the flight, but is it different in first class? Is it considered normal to have multiple drinks throughout the duration of the flight? Is it acceptable to use the request button as a way to get the flight attendant's attention to ask for another drink? Finally, how much can be taken from the snack basket before it looks selfish?
I know I sound like a serious noob right now to all you veteran PMs and such, but please help me; I don't want to waste the opportunity I have. |

Eat as much as you need from the snack basket, just don't take so much that you are denying to others. There are extra snack basket supplies in the galley so unless you are a serious glutton you aren't in danger of denying to others.
This thread reminds me of a flt last year with an F pax sitting in 1D, obviously for the first time. He asked FA for a beer, then pulled out his wallet to pay for it. FA, of course, told him beverages where complimentary. Upon learning that all his drinks were free, he proceeded to clean out the cooler. Never seen anyone drink so much on one flt. :) |
I generally do 2 items, on international business I've noticed they leave the snack basket somewhere for people to peruse, might be in the galley on domestic too.
I've usually had to start turning down drinks when in FC as they're so fast in coming to refill them, I was actually on a JFK-BOG flight where the flight attendant sort of refused to stop serving me, kept filling my wine glass up, I guess i was easily convinced. Someone was picking me up so I wasn't too worried, just found it amusing. ^ |
Just dont be alarmed when they close the curtain behind you, and they bring out the disco ball, thats when all the good stuff happens.

It gets folded outside in and goes in the overhead. Bob H |
I tend to take 1 or 2 items from the snack basket.
I avoid the call button - OK I have NEVER used the call button. I think it is something to do with my British Stiff Upper lip - or similar. On a normal flight, pre-flight drink always. Then at least two more. On a transcon more likely to be 3 to 4. On a TATL OpUp or E+ (free to a PM like me) absolute minimum of 4 - drinks that is ;) |

Also, don't be the guy who drinks the entire flight out of liquor. Travelling last summer on a pleasure trip with a friend who was on my itinerary and managed to get a companion UG. I ended up in 1A, he was in row 3 or 4. I swear he ordered enough doubles of Woodford and then Jack Daniels that he drank every drop of bourbon/whiskey the plane had! Talk about a noob move in F!
