Zone "Sky"
 

Anyone else get the Zone "Sky" on their boarding pass yesterday? It was in PHX.

They boarded pre-boarding, then first class, then "Sky" Zone (of which I was in), then Zone 1, 2, 3, 4.

Is this new? I did not see anything on the DL website

New boarding process is taking into effect.
Pre boards
First class/business (using SP lane)
SKy Priority customers (using SP lane)
Zone 1 (using SP lane)
Zone 2 (general boarding lane)
ZOne 3 (general boarding lane)

the zone indicators PREM and SKY are only for identification during boarding and will not be used in announcements

Yeah my guess would go for Sky Priority as well

I don't understand this, because any SkyPriority customers not boarding in FC are going to board in Zone 1. So if Sky is a new zone designation, nobody's BP is going to say Zone 1.

The Amex card holders will board in Zone 1, right?

Doesn't make sense to me either unless they will have GM+ board with skypriority and people who aren't gm+ who are in an exit row or on a full Y fare board in Zone 1, but seems like a lot of trouble for that.

What would make sense is to have fo's board in zone 1 and am ex cardholders in zone 2

Zone Prem :first, Business Elite, BUsiness
Zone SKy: Diamond, Platinum and GOld, also SKyteam elite + Alaska MVP GOld
Zone 1: Silver, Economy COmfort, AMEX, Exit rows and bulkhead
ZOne 2 and 3 : all remaining coach

My BP this am on a CR200 had PREM on it from CVG to MSP. Last week it just said zone 1.

To clarify, they will announce boarding for "Sky Priority customers." (as opposed to calling for Zone SKY) Which I suspect will be confusing to folks who don't know what SP means, such as lowly FOs or general members who might think...I'm a SkyMiles Member, I have priority boarding! (You haven't seen it all until you see a self-declared SM Member going DYKWIA on a flight.)

Then they'll be embarrassed when they have to stand in the penalty box & not be able to board. :mad:

Seems like a stupid change but I had SKY today instead of Zone 1, at John Wayne (SNA)

But hey, I don't sit at C.E. Woolman's desk any day, so what do I know.

This is a total waste. Why make it more complicated? Zone 1 2 3 4 5... Easy to understand.

On a 50 seat regional jet today, I was first in line and my pass said SKY. They still called for premium passengers first...

Maybe it's growing pains..

Because if they did that, the DYKWIA's wouldn't be publicly recognized as DYKWIA's, so the kettles in zones 4 & 5 would just think the zone 1 folks got lucky and randomly drew zone 1. They wouldn't know they were actually very important people. :D
