Is this compensation enough...?

Hello Everyone,
I was on a DL flight that was cancelled from NRT-Minneapolis. I waited in the airport for five hours, and they then told me to come to a meeting. They said that we would be transported by bus to HND Airport, and from there get on a plane to Detroit, not Minneapolis. So, I went to Haneda, expecting to get put in a hotel. I did not get put in a hotel, and I had to sleep on the ground of the airport for ten hours...

Then, when we arrived in Detroit, I was put on the standby list for a flight to Houston. The standby did not clear, and I was put on the next flight.

Finally, I arrived in Houston 19 hrs. late. When I called customer service, I got offered either a $100 voucher or 5,000 miles AS A PLATINUM MEDALLION!

Is this absurd, how much should I be offered?

Have a happy New Year!

Call again and write also. I believe this is worth at minimum $400.

I am sorry - are you frickin serious? 1 Thousand dollars 1000 not 100 - I assume a typo?

mrredskin Dec 29, 2011 1:29 pm

sounds like a trip from hell.

i don't think i'd be satisfied with anything under $600, personally

Compensation for flight delay rules are different for international flights vs domestic, and even for flights originating in different countries. If your flight falls under EU rules you generally are entitled to more than you'd get elsewhere.

I was recently involved in a cancellation of a flight from Mexico to the US. We were delayed almost 24 hours and received no vouchers and no miles, but did get put up in a great hotel with fine dining and even a glass of wine at dinner.

I'd say that your poor treatment was worth more than what you received, assuming that your delay was MX rather than WX related (since the weather was apparently OK at HND, I assume it was a MX issue).

I don't even know the current DL compensation rules for MX delays on domestic flights, but just a couple of years ago a similar delay on a domestic flight would have gotten you $400 in vouchers, plus hotel and meals.

BTW: Prepare yourself--eventually someone will say "They got you home, didn't they? That's compensation enough!"

I got 30k Skypesos for the IFE in BE not working on an overseas flight - your disaster is worth much more than that.

I appreciate you all being so helpful...
Whenever I call, they just all offer the same compensation....
AND, they all have an attitude

Is there an "Insider" for the Delta Forum, like a company representative.
There is one in the UA Forum...
If there is, could someone point me to them...

Thank you,
iluvairlines

I have called several times and always gotten the same reply...

Don't bother with the phone. Write a quick email (specifics only, no emotion), use the complaint form on Delta.com and wait for their reply.

I don't know for sure, but I think the phone reps are limited in what they can offer.

FWIW, I had a HKG-DTW-RDU itinerary changed to HKG-NRT-HNL-LAX-RDU because of two mechanical problems (HKG-DTW and HKG-NRT) arriving 15 hours late and I was automatically given 10,000 SkyMiles. I didn't ask for more. I was a PM at the time.

@DeltaAssist on twitter may be able to help as well.

Yes, the complaint button delta.com is actually a lot more useful the phone for these type of situations. If that doesn't work, write a letter and send it snail mail. I was on a GRU-ATL flight and my headset jack wasn't working. I mentioned it to the FA as dinner was being served and before I went to sleep (not really complaining but more of a FYI, this isn't working)and two days later 15K miles showed up in my account.

There are times when it's good to just roll with the punches but then there are times where poor treatment just shouldn't laughed off.

What was the reason for the CX of the NRT-MSP flight.

As a DL PM you are due, at a minimum, this amount:
19000-23000 Miles or $250-$300 ETCV + Car and Hotel Expenses (if any).

You obviously had "non-standard" extenuating circumstances which would increase those amounts.
