This could be, as well, although my experience on it has been that I've been upgraded every time. Not always at the window, though.

Now down to 10/16 available, and the price has decreased.

...

Point taken. After all, DL management have demonstrated that they are the industry experts when it comes to overbooking flights.

Remember, jacking up last minute ticket prices has been the legacy airline model for quite some time now.

I'm not disputing that all.

It's just that sometimes the legacy carriers conjure up the image of the nerdy little genius kid from the Gary Larson cartoons, with his hand in the cookie jar, grasping so may cookies that he can't get his hand though the mouth of the jar, and he can't figure out what to do. :D

I truly hope that I am wrong, but we may be approaching some interesting economic times during which DL management will have ample opportunities to test their new approaches to revenue enhancement under adverse conditions.

I'll definitely let you all know what happens on Friday.

Don't give up hope.

Just because DL management is holding back the seats doesn't mean that they will actually sell the seats.

You didn't indicate your medallion level, which obviously will play a big factor.

I overlooked answering one of your earlier questions. Yes, DL will sometimes add V inventory after the windows open. I have seen them hold back 22 of 24 seats until the FO window, then open the flood gates.

Good luck.

Cleared easily as #4 of 7 with 11 seats remaining. They managed to sell 0 seats even at an extra $200. Guess they need to drop it to $20.

$20 is way too low - a plus of the F cabin is a quieter and smaller cabin. If you price it at a $20 bill, you'll fill it up with whoever's closest to the GA at the time of announcement.

If you sold all 4 for $80, what's to say that those 4 people won't each have 4 drinks over the course of a TCON flight? That's 16 drinks, Delta just spent the $80 they collected.

Would I pay $200 for an upgrade for a 4 hour flight? Probably not, considering I'm still young and buy my tickets way in advance to grab L/U/T fares. Do I appreciate my rare FO upgrade (when I'm not #48 out of 48 on the upgrade list)? Oh hell yeah.

I'm going to have to stop posting things that I think are obvious exaggerations.

And I'm going to continue taking things literally :P

While I don't think gate upgrades should be sold for $20, I disagree with your math. Drinks aren't running DL $5 each in costs.

There are only 3 seats available for sale in F. Cheapest seat on that flight which guarantees you a seat in F is a YUP at $835. How much did you pay for one-way ATL-COS? Do you know what the market is on that flight on Friday's for last minute purchases seeking F seats?

Until all that is figured out, what's the complaint?

DL Upgrades

Probably DMs with high-priced tickets ahead of you.

BadgerFlyer91 Aug 18, 2011 9:52 am

Wow. Has it really come to blaming FCM for not getting upgraded in 5 days in advance? 3 seats available for sale doesn't seem unreasonable.

I need to start getting more upset when they only clear me one day in advance or at the gate if I want to people to properly recognize my Kryptonium status.

mbarreto Aug 18, 2011 10:08 am

Monetization sucks, but being FORCED to sit in the cabin we actually paid for sucks even more! :D

sbagdon Aug 18, 2011 10:10 am

My first reaction when I saw the title was... monetization sucks, when you don't have the monets... :)

I'll go with the other replies... a unique situation of too many DMs and/or high-fares.

This Monday I was flying mid-afternoon to MSP on a CRJ900. I usually get the upgrade at the 5 day window on this flight but this time I didn't (was actually only one upgraded at the gate). When I got on-board I saw that 8 (of 12) seats were a group of paid F folks going to Fairbanks. The lowest YUP fair for the route was $2300 (according to EF).

Stuff happens - maybe Delta got lucky and a group bought out the F cabin.
