Try to book 9 F seats on your flight and work your way down to see how many are left. The more seats the higher the odds but still low chance of price dropping

Pretty clear here we should be getting it. I sent a complaint in with the information, as I had the same response from phone agents as you. I will hit platinum with no extra flying if I can get it corrected, so big incentive for me.

Yes. Trip extras, including seat upgrades / FCM, are forfeited in the event of a voluntary change. With that said, I've had some luck getting an exception to this policy by asking nicely. You're entitled to a refund for involuntary changes.

Totally. I personally think the policy is pretty unfair and isn't disclosed clearly enough. I'm fine with the seat upgrades being nonrefundable, but the value of the upgrade should be added to the value of the ticket if cancelled / changed. Especially since these first class upgrade offers can be in the hundreds of dollars, and even reaching towards a thousand dollars in some cases!

This is the second time in the last 6 months I've found better deals by simply (re)purchasing a flight.
