I was just wondering how many DM members exist in the sky miles program. I was having a discussion with a friend and we couldn't really figure it out. Can anyone shed some light onto this question. Thanks.

Regardless, I am really happy to be one. Since gaining status I have had 100% domestic upgrades and a few int'l ones.

Maybe there were only 32K when DM began but I suspect the numbers are much higher today. In the beginning, SC staff seemed impressed when a DM came in. Now it is very common to see DM’s even in smaller airports. Also, I see far more DM luggage tags on flts.

While it is a big jump PM to DM, it was made much easier this past year by AmEx/DMQM/etc. Geez, you can be GM today without ever getting on a plane. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number was 50K+ now.

Here’s an interesting FT post from the UA forum that may give the DM number some perspective….

There are 365,000 Diamond Members, and each day of the year a specially selected group of 1,000 are encouraged to complain on this forum.

PS. Why yes, I am one of those whiners.

I think at the beginning of 2011 the number was ~39,500

Probably hasn't moved much since then unless Platinums had rolled over 49,000 miles and already flown 76,000 miles this year OR people have purchased the Air Elite Card (likely only a few sales of that so far in 2011)

Keep the guesses coming :D

The only one I know personally is me, so I'm guessing 1.

Am I close?

I'd guess by now there are around 40.000 Diamonds out there. Quite surprising to see GM estimates anywhere from 77-150K.
Would really like to know what market i am competing in.

Enough to pretty consistently keep me in the back SFO-ATL.:D

With almost 40K DMs in the system, we can safely assume that Thomas Hudson is not going to feel so special anymore ;)
