Dining at DTW
 

Lately, most of my connections have been through DTW. This is new to me as a legacy DL flyer. I love the airport and the SkyClubs are much nicer than the ones in ATL.

My one problem so far is finding good food at DTW. And by good, I don't mean fine dining, just a place with good food. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I love the food in MSP, I just don't love connecting through it. And the food at ATL isn't much to write home about either. I'm hoping that some of you who have flown through DTW for years will have some suggestions of good places.

Max and Erma's is like your chain kind of (applebees, chilis) food, although I have never been to the DTW one.

I always eat @Charley's (Steak and cheese). Don't know why, but I love it and it's quick. ;)

The Japanese place at the center of the terminal is pretty good...Otherwise, with a bit longer layover, the Westin has very decent food and it's own security checkpoint.

Food choices at DTW are generally poor, roughly in line with southeast Michigan's palate. There's the usual barforama (McDonald's, Burger King, etc.), and if you're looking for haute cuisine there's a Chili's Too and a Max & Ermas. There's a Mediterranean restaurant that has at-least-it-isn't-a-burger options. And if you're looking for something more or less unique to Michigan, the Coney Island has standard diner food.

The Japanese restaurant is probably the best option of the pack, but is higher end.

There's a food court with all your favorite mall outlets that you might be missing if you're connecting. It's in the center of the main concourse near the security checkpoint. It at least has a few more options.

If you have AT LEAST an hour, there is a Fudruckers. Note: They are SLOW and it takes a while to get your food. If you see a line of more than 5-6, it's at least 15 mins.

I like National Coney Island though for my fill of chilli dogs.

Sora is pretty darn good. Not fast food, but not overly expensive for sushi. I quite liked it.

Beyond that, it is pretty average to me. That isn't to say bad, just very ordinary, like most airports.

Sora (the Japanese place) is the only decent option; the Med. place is lousy (even the grape leaves are bad). Get the tempura udon at Sora, with some tuna rolls; pretty reasonable.

Also check out the fountain in the middle of the terminal and the tunnel for connections.

I often see people in such a rush that they miss the fountain. It's an entertaining artwork.

And the tunnel that connects the two terminals is also interesting.

not a big fan of the japanese place after having more authentic japanese food in tokyo and some places in nyc, but what is really really great at dtw is the fattoush salad with chicken at the mediterranean place, sit at the bar and jabber on with "scott" the bartender...its a great refreshing healthy meal that will fill you up, and scott is definately a charachter

On-Line Cafe/Food at DTW
 

In the McNamara Terminal (delta Mid-Field Terminal) I like the On-Line Cafe for breakfast on Concourse A. They make good omelettes.

When it opened in 2002, it was innovative for having internet terminals at most booths, but with the advent of Wi-Fi and 4G, I rarely see anyone using their computer terminals.

Regardless of the computer, they are relatively prompt in preparation for a complete breakast for eat-in with waitress service, or boxed to take on the plane.

I agree with the previous comments of the Concourse C Fuddrucker's... decent food, but suprisingly slow preparation.

If you have more time, I suggest DEMA in the Westin Hotel. Very good food, great beverage selecton, high prices, and private security line to re-enter Concourse A.

With the decline of the Sky Club snack offerings and poor availability of SkyMiles Awards, I have been using the Star Alliance carriers more frequently since January. They operate out of the North Terminal (Continental will join them later this month); I have found Ruby Tuesday's (near the US Airways and Southwest Airlines' gates) to offer higher quality food than Chili's or Max & Erma's.

+1 for Sora's. The only problem is its slow.

I enjoy the mediterranean place. The chicken gyro is decent, the fattoush salad is good, but the best part is that it is quick; I've eaten there more than once in less than 15 minutes.

For a quick meal, try the Boar's Head sandwich counter at the North end of Terminal A. They have really decent cold cuts, at least in the grocery stores.

A decent option is going to terminal B/C and going to Einstein's Bagels; their menu is a bit more interesting and doesn't cause so much guilt. The line is often long with flight crew (always a good sign in my book).

Agree with the Westin on a long layover, this requires re-clearing security.

+1 for Sora. That restaurant has effect on my decision weather to connect through DTW or ORD.
