Below was as of 25FEB10

I've compiled the complete list (might left out 1 or 2 which I hope not) of DELTA's 2010 Summer International operation, Caribbean and Mexico excluded.

Entire list can be found here (along with other US Biggies)
http://airlineroute.net/2010/02/25/dl-s10-update3/

Latest and upcoming change as of 25FEB10:
  • Atlanta - Caracas to be changed to A330-200 (notified earlier this week of this change)
  • Beijing is all 767
  • Tokyo - Shanghai is 747-400
  • Reduction to 6 weekly for both Bangkok and Singapore
  • In the list, the flight numbers are specified to reflect the post-DL/NW merger changes

MNL-NGO-NRT seems to be missing?

No, it's DTW - NGO - MNL same flight number.

NRT - MNL is separate.

Osakaboy Feb 25, 2010 6:42 pm

so ATL-NRT is 777LR and JFK-NRT is 744??

Interesting.

ATL-AMS-BOM seems to be the only other flight that's listed in this manner. With the old NW flight numbers, most flights to NRT continued on to other destinations. e.g. NW5 was PDX-NRT-SIN.

DL last fall announced both JFK NRT and JFK TLV is to be 747-400 starting this summer.

I wish it was possible to have such information confired earlier as I purchase international tickets months before departure.

It's impossible because they change it literally every week, especially the DL-NW merger was a big headache when I do these changes.

In general, summer schedule are finalized around mid-February and winter around mid-September

Thanks for posting. Very wonderful and informative.

I thought San Francisco-Tokyo was going 767 this summer. Or did this get reversed?

timf Feb 26, 2010 8:24 am

I'm still seeing SFO-NRT switching to a 767-300 on June 1. Looks like an error on the blog entry.

Also don't forget DL has already been reinstates more route SLC-NRT during in the summer seasonally.

Can someone tell me when does Delta typically release any seats and start selling tickets for summer flights?

Now still for a lot of flights inventory is totally zero'ed out (every single class is "0" and not bookable on delta.com or any third party booking engine or by any travel agent), though the flights are scheduled and are currently 90-99% empty I estimate (e.g. on some such flights looking at seat map all empty, on some may be just one or two seats occupied of the whole 747).

No other airline seems to have this practice to have flights scheduled, yet still just a few months out, not even start selling seats to anyone for any price. (The only seats occupied on these are sold by NW before they become DL flights, which is when the inventory became zero'ed out and has stayed that way since.) Only DL. What's the logic (if any) behind it?

Specifically for this I checked these 2 x daily + 4 x weekly flights in August,

and in second http://www.delta.com/schedules/trave...ched/index.jsp

I looked at this in August, but it also seems to be the case in months prior and later (at last when I checked on this before).

Let's take August 12th as the first date:

Aug 12th, scheduled HNL-NRT:
Carrier Flight # Depart Arrive Equipment Type Stops Flight Time Time/Date Airport Time/Date Airport
Delta 0611 10:15am 12 Aug 2010 HNL 1:15pm 13 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00
Delta 0647 1:35pm 12 Aug 2010 HNL 4:35pm 13 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00

Aug 12th: neither flight available for booking (revenue or award), not on delta.com, not on expedia.com, orbtiz.com, travelocity.com, or any other booking engine. Per DL reservations: "the flight is scheduled, but there are no seats available in any class for both of the flights" - which is pretty much impossible for a flight as far out as Aug (hence why I am checking on this then). delta.com only spits out options via LAX, SFO, PDX, SEA, SLC, etc... but no direct flights, neither one of two this day.

Aug 13th, scheduled HNL-NRT:
Carrier Flight # Depart Arrive Equipment Type Stops Flight Time Time/Date Airport Time/Date Airport
Delta 0611 10:15am 13 Aug 2010 HNL 1:15pm 14 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00
Delta 0623 10:45am 13 Aug 2010 HNL 2:00pm 14 Aug 2010 NRT Airbus Industrie A330-300 0 08:15
Delta 0647 1:35pm 13 Aug 2010 HNL 4:35pm 14 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00

Aug 13th: just DL 623 available, but not the other two.

Aug 14th, scheduled HNL-NRT:
Carrier Flight # Depart Arrive Equipment Type Stops Flight Time Time/Date Airport Time/Date Airport
Delta 0611 10:15am 14 Aug 2010 HNL 1:15pm 15 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00
Delta 0647 1:35pm 14 Aug 2010 HNL 4:35pm 15 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00

Aug 14th: neither flight available for booking (revenue or award), not on delta.com, not on expedia.com, orbtiz.com, travelocity.com, or any other booking engine.

Aug 15th, scheduled HNL-NRT:
Carrier Flight # Depart Arrive Equipment Type Stops Flight Time Time/Date Airport Time/Date Airport
Delta 0611 10:15am 15 Aug 2010 HNL 1:15pm 16 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00
Delta 0623 10:45am 15 Aug 2010 HNL 2:00pm 16 Aug 2010 NRT Airbus Industrie A330-200 0 08:15
Delta 0647 1:35pm 15 Aug 2010 HNL 4:35pm 16 Aug 2010 NRT Boeing 747-400 Passenger 0 08:00

Aug 15th: again just DL 623 available

...and it goes so on and on.

What's up with this? Why is DL, unlike all other airlines, not releasing seats on its summer int'l flights and having them scheduled yet 90-99% empty and refusing to sell a seat at any price? Is that common? When does DL typically start releasing seats for its summer flights?

I've been trying to book a client on an HNL-NRT flight (any airline) and have run into similar issues. My guess is that that market is treated in a special manner, and most seats probably get allocated to travel agents in Japan.

Looks like aircraft types are still changing. I have a NRT-PVG segment in late June. When I booked, it was 744. It changed to A330, but recently changed back to 744.
