Every single cruise line that's listed on that link prohibits smoking in the cabins. And for me, I'm just as glad they do. Most smokers don't realize just how badly the smell lingers in a cabin after it's been smoked in, and while cruise lines were pretty good with stuff to clean it, sometimes that would involve changing just about all the soft goods in the cabin if someone complained about the smoke smell. Given the effort involved in that type of situation, I'm not real surprised they've all gone to banning it in the cabin. And if anything, I'd expect things to get even more restrictive in the future on cruises.

There's a few that still allow it on balconies according to that link. I'm honestly surprised more cruiselines haven't banned that because of fire risk issues, especially after the star princess fire a number of years back. Even to this day I still see smokers tossing their butts off the side of the ship, even though it's emphasized not do to that in the safety briefing.

No, I don't think so. Even the European lines that may have more liberal on-board smoking policies do not allow smoking in the cabin or on balconies.

On most cruises, there are designated smoking areas outside. It's good to look for a cruise line that has a cigar room. There you can smoke.

I think some of the lines are picky about only allowing cigars in the cigar room. I seem to recall on Princess that's the policy, although whether it's enforced or not I couldn't tell you.

Oh, that would be nice! I don't smoke (cigars or cigarettes), but I love the smell of most cigars and sometimes just like to sit and read in the cigar room when it smells like cigars. But not when it smells like cigarettes.....ick!

Thank you. We won't be sailing Holland or Seabourn then. We usually book a Suite on Celebrity ships, but have not sailed with either of these lines, and with this policy will definitely not.

FYI,
Celebrity Cruise Line does not permit smoking in any interior space. Smoking is very limited to two or three outside spaces. Those are also limited to one side of the applicable decks. One is generally on the same deck as the pool and another on the deck with the casino. A third possibility on some ships would be near the exterior bar above a pool deck.

Balcony or on a Lido Deck is all that I have seen for years. Cruise lines are going with the averages, most people just do not smoke anymore and they don't want the complaints from the smell, or to have to clean it out of the rooms.

I wonder how cruise lines feel about e-cigs?

I believe most of them consider them as cigarettes when it comes to their rules.
