Thumbs up Amex card replacement revamp

Just wanted to say I really LIKE the new look of the HH Amex card.

It stands out in a nice way unlike all the silver/grays of all the others!

I don't like it at all. It reminds me of the SPG change as well.

I preferred the old SPG and Hilton cards because they were understated. They were simple and attractive. The new (red) SPG is just hideous. It's too bold and plain unattractive. I miss the stars and cool blue tones.

The new Hilton, although not as bad as SPG, is much the same way. The gold in my opinion looks tacky. In honesty, I'd prefer a more solid-colored card. For instance, my AAdvantage Bronze is a simpler card that I think is more attractive, and that's not saying much.

I prefer the looks of the Surpass card because it's more subtle, but even then, I'd take the old SPG or old HHonors over it.

I like simple and elegant cards, not over the top ones with flash designs. To date, my favorite looking cards have been:

- Chase Platinum Master Card circa 2002 (since changed to some hideous design)
- AMEX Platinum
- AMEX SPG
- AMEX HHonors
- Citi Amex Platinum

I guess I just prefer solid color'd cards and not these Fisher Price looking things.

When they first sent me that new SPG card, I called AMEX and told them I'd continue using my old card until it expires. They had no problem with that. The lady on the phone asked why, and I said it looked hideous. She commented that they had received numerous complaints and were evaluating replacing the design. Apparently, that hasn't happened. Two years later, my AMEX expired and now I have the weird red card :/

At the end of the day, looks aren't that important and don't influence my choice of cards, but I still prefer opening my wallet and seeing understated, solid color'd cards. Right now my wallet has this total tie-dye feel to it.

Well, I love the SPG Amex. I can't be sure until I have the news HHonors Amex design in my hands, but I think I'm going to like it too, better than the old one.

I got my new card about a week ago.

The word "platinum" is gone on my new card. Is that mean the new card is being downgrade to regular AE card?

I don't think SPG Amex ever had the same benefits as the Amex Plat charge card, if thats what you are wondering.
