Just found my forms buried on my desk and need to fill them out. Any updates on those of you who have done this already?

I'm still unsure whether to choose option 2 or 3. I've looked up my travel dates and expenses in Quicken (my records go back to 1991 so this was pretty easy). I only spent 99 days out of the country during the time frame of 1996-2006 and mostly used pre-paid vacation condos (in U.S. dollars) or ATMs so our credit card expenses are low. That makes me think that option 2 might be best. However if I used option 3 and get 3% that would be the better deal.

Also confused since we both got one of these letters but most of the expenses were on only my husbands credit card so would I be better off using option 3 for him and option 1 or 2 for me?

I can't tell you which option to choose, but as for the update...
there is none!

Agreed... most likely this is going to get held up for a few years, and maybe, just maybe, when everyone's already forgotten about this, a check will show up at your doorstep...

Gotta love that about class-actions. So many times you end up getting money you didn't know was yours, long after you forgot that somebody decided to make it yours...

Deadline is coming soon!!!

Just bumping this up again to remind folks that the deadline for filing is 30 May 2008, so if you haven't already done so you only have about two more weeks to file.

You don't even have to pay 42 cents for a stamp -- you can file on line.

This link explains the three types of claim and provides links to each claim form. As I noted, you can complete the form and file it on line.

Another bump. Deadline is May 30! www.ccfsettlement.com .

There's also another thread over on TravelBuzz, which I bumped as well.

You posted this in December 2007, so apparently you were suffering under the misapprehension that charges in 2007 would count. The eligible charges are only those from February 1, 1996 to November 8, 2006.

I just processed my claim online. Thanks to FT for the reminder. It's been sitting on my desk for months! The online submission was quick and painless!

I went with option 2, 59 days, mostly leisure for both myself and my wife.

I filed online yesterday too--Option 3

I only had $1,600+ in documented expenses since 2000 (I shredded earlier cc statements when I moved two years ago--arrgh!), so I'm gambling that most of these qualify for the 2%-3% refund.

I picked option 2 even though I was abroad for almost 800 days in that period--I'd rather that they guesstimate than me having to track down all the paperwork. :D

Good grief this is taking forever. I just checked the website, which was last updated on July18, 2008, saying this:
"The current status of this class action settlement is that a decision to grant final approval of the settlement is pending before the Court. With the expiration of the claims submission period, on May 30, 2008, the Settlement Administrator has commenced the process of auditing and validating claims. Please be advised that any claims postmarked or faxed after May 30, 2008 will be considered late. Also, any changes to your address or contact information should be sent in writing to the Settlement Administrator. The issuance of refund checks for valid timely claims will not commence until after the Court enters an order granting final approval of the settlement, any potential appeals are resolved, and the Settlement Administrator has validated the claims. Please continue to check this website for additional information about the settlement and claims administration as it becomes available. "

I suppose they also charge all these funny fees.

Discover does not charge any Forex fees. It's the best card to use abroad- if you can find anyone who will take it. (this may change with the DC network merger.)

Any update on the settlement?

ExitRowAisle Jul 15, 2009 11:33 am

I know cross-posting is frowned upon, but I thought that people on this forum might be interested in the progress made toward the settlement. As best I can tell, it is not favorable for those of us who filed under Option 2 (and even Option 1 for that matter).

I posted some links in Travel Buzz at:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/12069337-post116.html

The bottom line is that the recommended median daily spend for all purposes other than business range betwen the ridiculously low amounts of $15 and $20 (business is $82 per day).

The flat $25 option will likely be reduced to between $15 and $17.

I had the documentation to file under Option 3 but thought that my spend was less than the typical person's, so I filed under Option 2. I spent way more than $20 per day (and who wouldn't if they put any lodging expenses on their credit card). I guess I didn't factor in that the consultant used in this settlement would make some questionable, customer-unfriendly assumptions.

Well, I just got my settlement check for $8 and change this week on my Amex. I don't even remember when I used this card internationally, but it was certainly over five years ago.

I just got a check in the mail for the same. I already got a check over a year ago for about $18. I thought that was all I was getting since I picked the $25 option and legal fees knocked that down to $18.
