amtrak and yearly limit
 
I know that amtrak has a 25,000 limit on the number of miles I can transfer into United -- my question though: Is this limit based on a calendar year or a revolving 12 month period?

Thus could i dump 25k miles into my account late dec and do another 25k dump in january?

It's based on the calendar year, so your plan should work (I'm planning to move a few move CO miles to UA via Amtrak after January 1 too!) :)
