Qualifying Purchases Meaning
I received an offer from a credit card company where I can receive a statement credit if I spend a certain amount on "qualifying purchases" before a certain date. Is an insurance premium renewal considered a "qualifying purchase?"

Depends on the credit card. Depends on the offer. Read the fine print.

IT is very fine print, and even that may not tell the entire story.
For example, you may be given bonus points for using the CC at a grocery store, but what exactly does that mean. Is a Walmart Super-center grocery purchase considered a grocery store? Some CCs do not consider them to be so, and you lose the bonus because of that. Another example may be a gas station. If you buy gas at the pump, you get extra points, but a candy bar inside the attached store does not. In general, things like gift cards and cash equivalents usually do not count as qualifying purchases in the fine print but usually go through as such on the statement. As always, YMMV depending on the CC you use. ;) |
There's almost always a terms & conditions (small print) buried at the bottom of the offer page, so read it carefully.
