Paypal forces to use their currency exchange with payment

Hello everybody,

Have not used paypal for payment for last several month. Today, when I logged on for a payment, I did not have option any more to post the transaction with the original currency to the credit card. The only option was to use Paypal's own currency exchange which adds apps 3.5% fees. See the screenshot:

Is this something new systemwide or is it glitch with my account/card? If latter, how can I revert the transaction in USD and post it in the original currency?

Thanks

There's a place to set the conversion option for each of your cards, but PayPal hides it pretty well:

Thanks

I tried it on my HKD account, can opt-out:

If I don't opt out, I get scalped 3%:

(Paypal 6.187045/A$ vs Visa 6.007371/A$ --> 3% scalp)

If I select "Other Conversion Options" you will be given another chance to opt out:

Another pretty annoying thing: My Payoneer EUR card is always recognized as GBP card since it's from UK...always ending up paying 10% more :(

It's kinda annoying that you have to do this for every single card in your account. I could see myself forgetting one and getting hit with DCC anyway. :td:

It's a travesty that it isn't possible to opt out of PayPal's scalping when using Discover.

If I use my Amex card, the charge is always in the original currency. Paypal's conversion to my account's currency (USD) isn't even an option.

That's because AMEX always handles currency conversion on its own and does not allow third parties to do it. For the same reason, if you want to avoid DCC for sure, you have to use Amex card - DCC with Amex is not possible.

And for the reason above some merchants do not accept AMEX via paypal.

PayPal just forced DCC on me to use Discover, on a small purchase. I estimate it cost me around 7 cents. Spent half an hour trying to disable it and determined there is simply no way to disable it. Charge went through, as PayPal said, in USD.

Last eBay purchase I'll ever be making... I would've backed out but I'd already bought on eBay so I had no choice but to accept it... still a good deal was had, but it's the principle.

Its because Paypal only has a Discover agreement in the US for US Dollars. So thats the only currency they can process discover in.

Oh, I'd have used an Amex then... thought I'd be getting the double cashback LOL. Didn't know Discover would make a difference. Still, awful of them.
