Best way for a Canadian to earn points
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here, so I am hoping to be asking this question in the right place. What is the best and most rewarding card to build points with? Does it work like in the US where multiple cards can work towards the same trip? We are DVC members and travel to Orlando via Buffalo quite a bit, New York, Vancouver, Montreal, and would like to travel to Hawaii and Italy in the next few years if that helps. We try to avoid Toronto and Hamilton airports, re: pricing and our current worry of booking with Air Canada. My DH is an employee at one of the major banks/insurance company as well. Thanks! (sorry if this is in the incorrect place) |

Ok this is what I was looking for. Resurrecting an old thread here, but here goes.
So I would like DH to get one of the TD travel cards because he is a TD employee. All credit card fees and min. balances are usually waived. Also gets staff interest rates. I am currently a TD customer and would like to switch as well and hoping that would cover a flight for DH and I to Orlando next year out of Buffalo or Toronto, whichever works out better. How much experience do people have with this card? Is it difficult to book with? I would also like the have the US card (that would be for me since any purchases on my Visa are through american websites - all packages delivered to an amercian address). That being said, I am saying this because I don't think we qualify for a United card. If we do, then we would like to get one TD card each and the United card. |
Cards for Canadians
Are there any cards that offer good signup bonus for Canadians living in Canada? Are do Canadians just use a US address and Canadian SIN and apply for US cards?
Thanks |
A SIN will do nothing for you to get a US credit card. It is possible to get a US credit card with a US mailing address and preferably a US bank account (easy to open), but you will most likely not build credit history without a SSN/ITIN. The IRS will not issue you an ITIN for the purposes of opening a bank account/credit card. Even if you get a US CC, the chances of getting any card with worthwhile signup bonuses is pretty much out the window. You will likely have to start with a really basic card even with an ITIN and build your way up from there. It is theoretically possible to eventually get a decent US CC without stepping foot in the US, but it is a long, difficult process which really isn't worth it.
There are rarely really good CC sign-up bonuses for Canadians, the 50k Amex Platinum/Aeroplan Platinum and the occasional 20k SPG Amex being possible exceptions. |

I have an Amex Aeroplan Plat and Amex SPG and a TD Visa Infinite. I want to cancel my TD card and get something else. I understand that RBC has credit cards that allow transfers to AA miles, which is a great program as I'd like to use them to redeem for CX, BA, and Etihad premium travel.
Which RBC card shoud I get, and is there any specific promo going on or link I should click so someone can get a referral bonus? |

You'll see there's been a recurring promo (once a year? twice a year?) that offers a very good conversion rate. |
Any update for 2012? I am looking for a credit card for frequent flyer miles without flying for Canadians? I am about to move in Vancouver this October
