Copa uses CO's PC lounge. if you have a macbook you could get 3 movies easily on the plane and then recharge while in the lounge for the next leg.

Not quite that long for me...
 

On my Dell, I can probably get a couple hours....and I definitely plan on charging it up in the lounge at Panama.

Before I choose our seats, I need to find out where these darn tv screens are and how big so I know if I need to sit as close to them as possible.

I didn't know there were planes that had communal tvs in biz class anymore--are these planes really, really, really old?

If anyone knows the ideal place to sit to have the best viewing position of these communal tvs, that would be great!

Well, that's all relative. A DL flight to Rome would have their BusinessElite product. It is a reasonable international business class product with 50"+ pitch, recliner seats (likely when you were flying it; some of their planes are flat seats now) and upgraded catering.

This flight will be a true domestic F seat with ~36-38" pitch and a bit of recline but nothing like an intercontinental biz seat.

The monitors are the typical flip-down from under the overhead bins. They're not particularly large (maybe 9-10"). My recollection is that row 2 is pretty good for seeing the screen but I generally am sleeping or drinking on the plane and not watching the IFE so don't hold me to that.

Yeah...the more I learn the more I realize these seats are pretty much like flying in a Southwest Airlines plane that just so happens to have a pop down communal TV screen--and...food.

Oh well.....there is that lounge in Panama!!! Ha!!!!!

Geez...I'd hate to see what the economy seats are....probably the only difference is that you get free alcohol...actually, I may find out that isn't even the case. Oh well.....

Have you considered LA LAX-LIM-GRU or KE LAX-GRU and then buying a GOL or JJ or Webjet or OceanAir ticket GRU-SDU or GRU-GIG?

I did search various airlines when booking this flight. I do not have any points for upgrades/awards (only Marriott/Hilton).

I really think COPA offered us the best deal actually...."Biz class" (even though their version of biz class is less than ideal) with a 3 hour layover in Panama (w/access to the lounge) and then on to Rio for $1,000 each. I really think that is reasonable given that we were allowed to book just one way.

It will be fine....once you learn that they don't have this or they don't have that, you are better able to have more realistic expectations. I think that is the reason so many travelers are disappointed when they travel--they don't do any research and everything is learned as they go (and in their minds, it was so much different).

I'm good....we are very fortunate to be taking such an amazing trip. The fact that I got 2 nights at the JW Marriott in Rio is amazing. Plat or not, this was an anomaly to get these 2 nights right before we cruise out of Rio!
