IF i was flying on a flight and at the gate i told the gate attendant that i am a UA 1k member whats the likelihood of getting an upgrade if any?

CO and UA have not announced any plans of reciprocal upgrades so your chances would be zero.

Only Air Astana Gold is elite and rarified enough to secure black-market upgrades with Continental. You have to know the secret handshake, though.
To solve your upgrade woes, you might just check to see whether CO is offering paid upgrades the day of your flight. CO will often offer such upgrades either via online check-in, or at the kiosk, if such are available (after all elites have been upgraded).

You should not get the upgrade. There is no reciprocity, and more likely there are CO elites who would qualify for the upgrade before you.

I'm sure the gate agent would gladly accommodate you in Economy Plus at no charge.

I think the agent would give you a blank look because s/he would have no idea what a "UA 1K" member was. Heaven knows, I don't.
