If/when CO establishes scheduled service to HAV will they open a "President's Club" and be forced to rename it "Dictator's Club?"
 And when LH commences service will they shuttle F pax to the plane in a 56 Chevy Bel Air? Will F class even be allowed?

The question was: Is supporting a communist regime with your travel dollars a good thing? Yes/no? Please don't dodge the question. |

Hey, it's just us chickens. Please move this to OMNI. Okay?

I think the 'yes/no' question can be moved to OMNI. Me, I'd like to see/read about the equipment used, who gets the first new FM line, is a mojito served in HAV as good as elsewhere, best MR to HAV, etc.
And +1... yes, I'd like to go |

I really think that any dropping of the embargo and establishment of service is going to require a new bilateral, and that means providing slots for Cubana to fly their Russian rust buckets into US airports.
Also, Cubana flies new TU-204's, a Russian 757 knock-off. All of CU's long-haul a/c have "Clase Club Tropical," a decidedly unproletarian premium class. Cubana is licensed to fly internationally (Toronto, Montreal, Madrid, Paris, London, Rome and Moscow, as well as almost all of Latin America) and has had an impressive safety record for the flag carrier of such an impoverished nation. By the way, CU already has a codesharing agreement with Copa. I have been to Cuba many times (when I worked as a reporter). It is a wonderful island, the people are extremely friendly, it is full of history and the beaches and resorts excellent. It is one of the favorite destinations of Canadians and Europeans looking for a bargain or some fascinating history. |

To that end, I'm not sure that the airlines will exactly be tripping over themselves to serve the market. Sure, they will serve it, much like they do the rest of the Caribbean, but would this really be that important to CO, such that they would make a big deal out of it? |

Feel free to continue your discussion in Omni, I am going to clean up this thread.

Well, thank you. What is the proper procedure to continue the discussion in Omni? Create a new thread?

Let's not dress this up as something it isn't. Virtually all of those flying from Europe and Canada are going to Cuba for the same reason they would go to the Dominican Republic and I think the same would be true of Americans, at least once the novelty wears off.

A number of international airlines have been serving Havana for decades, and continue to do so, which implies that the business they do justifies it, including, AF, IB, VS, AC, SU, MX. As mentioned earlier, a number of U.S. carriers have been serving HAV for years with their scheduled "charters" including AA, AE, CO and CoCo. |
Maybe Fidel and Raul know how much Larry spent on LHR slots and will extort the rights if/when they are available.
|
CO had a charter flight from MIA to HAV not too long ago.
