Problems with Chase Continental Card?

Is anyone else having problems with the Chase Continental card and Chase's fraud prevention system? Starting last weekend, I have had daily battles with Chase: requests to confirm purchases, purchases denied, long conversations with Chase, promises that they fixed the problem, then the same problem again the next day...and yet another supervisor saying that the one the day before didn't fix it correctly.

After five days of this I have stopped using my Chase Continental Card entirely and plan to cancel it at the end of next billing period.

Nothing about my buying habits has changed at all. This was completely out of the blue. Totally unacceptable. No point in having a credit card that you can't actually buy anything with :(

With my CO card unusable and CO's EWR fares so outrageous that of my first five trips of the year zero are on CO, it is going to be really hard to collect many CO miles this year. Arrrgh.

While I have been generally satisfied with my Chase Card, the constant problems with their hypervigilant fraud system is the biggest complaint I have.

And yes ........... I had it happen a few days ago.

Even despite having called them before my international travel to document location and dates on the account, they still put a hold on it.

No issues with chase on my credit card.
They can be a little cranky with my debit card though.

In my experience with another Chase card, I have to create a new password every time I log in. This means that, effectively, my password is a combination of my SSN, credit card number and secret question answer. I'm about to cancel the other card...and would get a CO Presidential Plus card is they had an agreement with pretty much any other bank. Any suggestions in terms of a good credit card for loyal CO flyers who do not want to deal with Chase? I'm leaning towards the Starwood AmEx.

All the Time

I have this happen all the time. I use the card to buy advertising for my online companies so google hits the card pretty much everyday with a 500 dollar charge, and the morons in Chase Fraud cancel the card about 2 x per month. It helps me blow off the days steam yelling at them like the idoits they are for canceling the card for the exact same charge day after day!

Its normal for them to do this, you can ask to be put on the highest level of sercurity VIP level etc. And you can normally get an extra 500 miles for the 5 minutes of your time to call in and yell!

I posted this a few days ago but it fits in here as well, and this has happened to me on multiple cards. Due to built in security checks on some cards I have had sales not go through even with ID checks. I have lived (and still do a couple months a year) in a tri border region where I can buy things in three countries via credit with in an hour, literally, then go to a US base and use a card on a machine that will register the sale in the NY/NJ area (even though sale is via Europe), and then go online and purchase tickets/items from another location. As both a pilot and frequent flyer I can buy things within hours at different places, for large sums, which can also trip the fraud alert. I have had to call and turn off my fraud protection several times otherwise the companies tell me "I can't be in two places" at once, to which I saw with the internet I can buy things on 5 continents in ten minutes but such is lost on the feckless phone trolls that answer at these places.

Some even tell me it can't be turned off.

Ciao,
FH

My husband and I both opened account in December so we could get the miles and replace our existing mileage cards. I have had no problems with his card or account. Mine on the other hand has been a nightmare. We came back from a trip to Hawaii to find that my card no longer worked. Turns out they canceled my account because they said that I didn't return some paperwork to verify that my mother, whom I had placed as an authorized user, was not an illegal immigrant (huh?). I never received anything from them beyond the welcome packet. I called their fraud dept as I was instructed to by the very rude customer service lady who sounded like I was bothering her. Two separate calls to the dept and nobody ever answered the phone and never returned my messages.

They just canceled the card after charging me the annual fee. I should mention that my husband put his mom on his card as well and Chase never questioned him about her. The difference being her surname is Irish and my mothers happens to be of Spanish origin. What's funny is that I am also on that card-I mean, they were both joint accounts but only mine was targeted and closed without the courtesy of a call back or email or letter--nothing.

How frustrating is that? I'm glad that I hadn't closed down my Alaska Airlines BoA card or we'd be left with only 1 card and no backup. Not that I can consider any card from Chase reliable after this incident.

Chase, not surprisingly, has suddenly begun to tighten up all aspects of their credit operations. I have a Chase UA Mileage Plus Visa that I have routinely used to buy air tickets. Recently, however, I purchased a Biz HKG ticket and it was put on hold by Chase. I called and the hold was lifted. The UA agent said it happens all the time now--they're used to it. Mostly for tickets purchased to Asia and Africa.

Interesting. They put me on the highest level of security 3 times...or so they said. At one point they promised miles but didn't mention the amount.

Mine experienced a fraud charge too, and it's been nearly 2-weeks now waiting for the replacement card, that I don't think is acceptable.

Sounds like a great class action lawsuit in the making.
