I was flying AA MCO-LGA on a Monday evening, after a weekend at WDW during Super Soap weekend. We had seen an AMC star on the flight down Friday, and I was keeping my eyes open for more actors. I was flying alone (the future Mrs. JohnneeO and her sister were staying one more night), waiting for the flight, sitting at the end of a long row of seats, and a woman sat down at the other end of the row. After a few people come up and ask for autographs, I took a closer look and realized it is Eden Reigel, star of AMC.
I also realized that this was the same woman who had been behind me at the security checkpoint, but all I had noticed then was that she was crowding my space as I was getting my bags and bins ready for the x-ray! Anyway, she was very nice, and signed an autograph for the then future Mrs. JohnneeO. |
Ha! Great story!
My hubby and I were walking through the Luxor in Las Vegas when two guys dressed in suits walked up to us and asked us very nicely if we had any idea how to get to the front door (wasn't obvious from that vantage point). Hubby gave quick directions, and the second guy said "thanks a lot" and playfully punched hubby in the arm. As he walked away we saw the tatoos on the right side of his face. It was Mike Tyson. Neither of us recognized him until people started running up to him asking for autographs... |
some benchwarmer---he's paid over 20 million per year

This guy sounds like a total ego-ridden idiot. I've never heard of him either. The only reason he went to Georgia Tech is b/c he can throw an orange ball through a hoop. If he couldn't do that he'd probably be washing your car.

Celebrity Depends on which Coast you are on

I do consulting for political campaign administration from here in DC and regularly meet with "celebrities" from the political world. Many, if not most, of them are just as exciting as watching paint dry (except for those Krylon commercials w/ Johnny Bench - it was always exciting to see if one would drip). Some years ago at one of the national political conventions I met an actress/screenwriter (who wasnt so famous but several of her family are and everyone knows her grandfather) and we dated for several years. I was always tickled pink whenever I would visit her on the left coast and get to meet her famous friends. But it is still ridiculously amusing to think about how "they" would ask me "who are you working for now" and badger me for stories about Congress(wo)man W, Senator X or Secretary Y and how I could be the center of their celebrity "gossip" distribution! on the other hand, it was great fun to meet someone, like Rob Lowe, and say, "Who?" "Oh, are you in movies, too?" "Been in anything I might have heard of?" |
So many funny stories! I had no idea about the man, other than the fact that he was quite kind to me. I did get an idea from trying not to overhear his phone conversations that he was someone of certain importance.
Okay, to the poster who met Eden Riegel, (Bianca on my favorite soap- AMC) I am SO jealous! I don't usually get excited about meeting actors because my friend is an actress and she's been on a lot of shows, but anyone from AMC would've certainly got my attention. My poor DVR saves up AMC eps for me and spits them out one after the other when I get back from wherever I've been. It tickles me to hear that you met her! In fact, I was just about to start today's episode! ;) |
Marbory? Who? Sounds like an English Lord.
Great story, I would not have recognized him either. Never heard of him |

Nice story. I travel with my boss a lot (who won NBC's The Apprentice Season 4) and some people look at him at times and say "Do I know you?" And he says, "I don't know...Do you?" After a while, they realize who he is. In fact, I was just in DC today with him and he got stopped by some dude who wanted to take pictures with him...Bottom line: many celebrities look familiar but you don't quite know where you have seen them at times.

We were at a restaurant in Cleveland last winter when Zydrunis Ilgauskis and Anderson Varejao came in.
One of the young ladies in our party, smitten with Andy and his mop as are so many female Cavs fans, decided to introduce herself. Her introduction line: "You're Brazilian?! So is my waxing!" |
Great Story, and a delightful reading!
Marbury? Who would recognize him unless you are a Knicks fan or have basketball tattoos on your rear end. I have been in the PC and in FC sitting next to people I my have facially recognized but had no clue who they actually were. We travel, we work 24 hours a day, who really has the time with lives like ours to learn all of these people that might be on Inside Edition every night. I think you did fine with your seatmate, he most likely actually appreciated the fact that you were not drooling over sitting next to him. I almost bet that after he left the plane and thought about it that he really appreciated the fact that you were not some basketball crazed fan (2 guys next to you) chatting him up and asking him everything under the sun about basketball and autographs for their 30 grandkids. Remember we are all human and I bet the 3-5 hours on the plane chatting with you probably was a fresh breathe of air for him to remind him we are all human. Once again a great story, thanks for posting it! |

OK, I just have to post this. Very late one night (or early morning depending how you look at it) in the Venetian in Vegas, the casino was nearly empty and I decided to join the few remaining people at a craps table. A very nice man welcomed me while his rather large friends looked on, and I started playing. I noticed that he took an awful lot of cell calls (thankfully short ones), stepping away from the table each time. I took the dice, but noticed that whenever he stepped away, my dice went BAAAD and nobody else would roll (it was just me and the nice young man playing while his friends and some passersby simply "watched"). So I stalled as much as I could each time and we eventually started raking it in. This nice young man kept patting me on the back, telling me to keep on rolling, that I brought him luck etc. We had a great run and both won quite a bit of money, and I bid him goodnight at about 6am. He hugged me and told me to "keep it real". Nice young gentleman!
Several months later, I was watching TV with my teen/twenties daughters (I forget what) and I said "Hey! That's that nice young man I was playing craps with!" It was only then that I found out his name was Jay-Z, apparently rather popular and dating Beyonce. My daughters laughed at me for hours. And this wasn't the first time, nor would it be the last. I had no idea I was playing cards with KC (of the Sunshine Band Fame) in Atlantis, Allen Iverson (of the '76ers) in Trump Taj Mahal, or Melissa Joan Hart in the halls of Atlantis again, even ate dinner next to Mike Tyson once and didn't know it until after he left. I DID recognize Hulk Hogan and, although it took me while, was able to put a name to the face of Michael Douglas (looked familiar). There were also numerous times that my daughters recognized rappers or actors and I had no clue who they were. And I wonder why people call me oblivious! Robin |
